🦎 Phoenix Update 🦎

After a long 5 hours of driving, we have made it home safely with Phoenix. He is still in very rough condition, but we're working closely with both our veterinarian and his previous treating veterinarian to continue the care he desperately needs.

Despite everything he's been through, Phoenix has reportedly made some improvements, and we're hopeful that with continued treatment, time, and lots of care, he'll keep moving in the right direction.

As you can imagine, his medical expenses will add up quickly. If you're able to help, any amount makes a difference and goes directly toward his ongoing veterinary care.

Ways to Donate:
💚 Cash App: $EquiKay9
💚 Venmo:
💚 PayPal:

You can also make a payment directly to the veterinary clinic.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Phoenix so far. Your kindness means the world to us and gives animals like him a chance to heal.

If you're unable to donate, please share this post. Sharing helps us reach more people and is one of the most valuable ways you can support Phoenix's recovery.

❤️Happy Birthday, Professor!💚

With all the preparation for our incoming medical case, we were not able to properly wish Professor Ember a Happy birthday!

Yesterday Ember turned 2 years old! Ember spent her day basking and enjoying some superworms! Ember is a leatherback bearded dragon that started our love for reptiles! We could not have done this without her!
Professor Ember teaches everyone at Eclectic Exotics University how to properly take care of their reptiles. We hope that Ember has taught everyone here a little something about their reptilian friends or family.

Please help us wish a happy (belated) birthday to our beloved Professor Ember!

🎊And the answer is….

There are several states that either restrict some reptiles completely or that require permits. Such as: California (very strict), Illinois, Connecticut, Alabama (is very strict), Delaware, Florida, among others.

Some exotics that are subject to these bans and permits include: bush babies, sugar gliders, tegus, certain salamanders, some species of turtles, venomous species of snake, boa constrictors, some iguana species, and much more!

Some permit types include: USDA License, Venomous Reptile Possession Permit, DNR Permits for native species of your state, Herpetoculture Permit, and others.

🚨It’s important to continue to read up on laws in your state and others. If you are planning on moving you may want to check out state and local regulations in that area.

🚨🚨NEVER, EVER lie to your landlord(if you rent) or conceal an animal from your local DNR. This doesn’t just affect YOU, it affects the animal you are keeping. You can get caught and lose a lot more than just your animal.

See you next week students!

Incoming Rescue: Phoenix the Leopard Gecko

We will need our village for this one!

Tomorrow, a 6-year-old leopard gecko will be coming into our care.
Phoenix has been through a lot recently. About a month ago, he was rescued by an individual who wanted to give him a second chance. When he arrived, he was suffering from a severe eye infection, burns and damaged skin, and a severely clogged vent with impacted hemipenes that were swollen, crusted, and leaking discharge.

Over the past three weeks, his rescuer has invested significant time, effort, veterinary care, and medication into helping him recover. Thankfully, his eye infection has healed, but he is still battling ongoing issues involving his hemipenes and skin.
Wanting to ensure he receives the continued specialized care he needs, his rescuer has made the difficult decision to surrender him to Eclectic Exotics Rescue & Rehab.

We have chosen to name him Phoenix, after the legendary bird that rises from the ashes. With everything he has endured, we felt the name was fitting and chose it in the hope that he, too, will overcome the odds and continue fighting his way toward recovery.

Phoenix will be arriving tomorrow evening. Once he is here, we will be consulting with our veterinarian, forwarding all medical records, and determining the next steps in his treatment plan.

Current Needs: 🦎 One 24" Arcadia 7% UVB bulb 🦎 Donations toward ongoing veterinary care and treatment

If you are able to donate either the UVB bulb or contribute toward Phoenix's medical expenses, we would be incredibly grateful. Every dollar and every donation helps us continue providing care to reptiles like Phoenix who need a second chance.

Contact us directly for donation methods.

Please keep Phoenix in your thoughts as he begins the next chapter of his journey with us. ❤️

🔥Fire Scare🔥

Even we are not without fault. Weird things happen to us all the time! But this one could have been scary! We have several personal animals and two that live in bedroom size grow tents. Our two personal Tegus (Coraline and Alaska) call these grow tents home! The other morning started like any other: horse stalls and meetings for the two of us. Neither one of us home…
We arrived home around and fed all the upstairs animals. We had almost forgotten the tegu plates when Alex asked me to grab them. We headed downstairs and as I started laundry I hear “Babe come quick!”….and I saw smoke. Our worst fear…
A heat lamp had been knocked onto the PVC enclosure inside the grow tent and was burning. Luckily there were no flames, yet. Alex was able to locate Alaska inside the enclosure dug under her substrate. To be clear: the enclosure in the tent was used as a hide, meaning no glass.
Come to find out at some point in the morning she climbed up and knocked her bulb over. To prevent this from happening again we have removed the enclosure and have given Alaska her mini upgrade (pics to come!)
Everyone will be happy to know that Alaska is fine! She has no injuries and is acting normally, we will be monitoring her for any respiratory symptoms for the next few days. It makes us wonder what would have happened if we didn’t go to feed her. It is important to remember to check on your animals daily! Especially those in grow tents that have small windows.
We are grateful that nothing bad happened to any animal, human, or structure. Our animals mean the world to us and we would have been devastated. The house and material things can be replaced, but the many little lives we share our home with can not.
🔥The enclosure is usable…but crispy!

❤️Ambassadors in the Making💚

Each animal that comes into Eclectic Exotics is evaluated for health concerns, temperament, and ability to be handled, among other things. But every once in a while animals stick to not only our hearts, but the hearts of our team.
Some animals come in and have personalities that cannot be matched. This is what our team discovered with Hermione, Linguine, and Ernie. These three beautiful animals have proven they have what it takes to be Ambassadors for their species and will remain with members of our team! We could not be happier to see these three animals thriving in the best care that can be provided for them. Thank you to our team for recognizing these animals as prime examples of what reptiles CAN be when treated right! We can’t wait to see what the future holds for these three!

❤️We still have plenty of adoptable animals to chose from! Reach out directly for more details!
