I found a golf ball sized lump under my Sophia's right jaw (submandibular) bone. I was terrified. It seemed to come up outof nowhere!! I discussed the possibility of cancer with numeorus colleagues and we were all concerned. I did an aspirate of the mass and then did a thermal imaging scan. I immediately saw that the right side of her face was hot (red!), including her eye, parotid and lacrimal area, which is more characteristic of an infection than cancer... we started her on antibiotic therapy and she is responding well. Diagnosis was confirmed on cytology. Thermal imaging is a great tool to help us figure out what is happening and helped calm my fears... take a look below and compare the right and left sides of her face...

This is Murphy!! Mom wanted to discuss his recent diagnosis of Cushing's disease, his overall health and wanted to make sure his back was not bothering him. Soo.. we scanned him and he looked great!!! Pain can be very difficult to evaluate in animals, and thermal imaging helps take some of the guesswork out of it!!
