At the 11th-hour, Councilmember Squilla added an amendment to his own bill that shifted the costs of treatment to tenants if the infestation is detected after the 90th day of a lease. The amendment is antithetical to the intent of the original legislation.

This is the best example we can give as to why property managers should have a tenant changeover inspection every time a tenant moves out and before the new tenant is handed keys!

Property managers should NEVER have maintenance perform any type of pest control treatment.

Property mangers should NEVER suggest tenants self treat or provide tenants with OTC pesticides.

Some apartment managers really get it! This complex is very proactive with their inspection protocol. And the results speak for themselves.

They’ve reduced their bed bug treatments by more than 50% in the past 14 months.

Not only do they perform annual full-building inspections (300+ units) they also inspect 20-25 apartments monthly.

They’ve educated their tenants about the importance of these inspection and some of them have a great sense of humor about it as you can see from the notes left up for us. 😁

K9s were used in many roles in WWI, including running messages back and forth and, as pictured, Red Cross dogs that carried first aid supplies and helped locate wounded soldiers on the battlefield.
