Screened-in catios: One space. Zero bugs. Two happy species. 😸 👱🏻♂️ 👩🏻
Most people know us for catios — but some of our favorite builds are the screened-in patios, porches, and balconies we transform into shared indoor-outdoor space for cats and their people.
Why screen it in?
Bugs stay out. With ankle-biter mosquitoes now firmly established across Southern California, a screened space means you and your cat can actually enjoy the outdoors without getting eaten alive. Cats and humans get a joint hangout. Everyone gets the fresh air.
It's usable year-round. Shade, airflow, and protection from the elements make these spaces functional in every season.
It adds real livable square footage. A screened patio, porch, or balcony effectively becomes another room of the house.
We use a high-end, cat-resistant screen that's 3x stronger than standard screen — cats can even climb it without tearing through. We'd still rather they didn't, though, so we love loading the perimeter with cat shelves, perches, and climbing elements to give them something better to do than test the screen.
