Golden Years Dog Sanctuary Saving senior dogs so they may enjoy the last bit of their life with love and freedom from cages. Fostering at risk cats and kittens from local shelters.

Golden years dog sanctuary is our way to help senior dogs. My husband and I rescue senior dogs from local shelters to give them the best of the rest of their life. Living in a semi-rural canyon outside Los Angeles dogs were dumped at our horse farm all the time. When the dogs stopped being dumped; we went to the shelters instead. we always went for the older, less attractive, dogs that no one else wanted. Since we could only have 3 dogs in Los Angeles county, even though we own 11 acres; we obtained an excessive animal permit. Now we can have up to 18 dogs at a time. we became a 501c so those who would like to help up feed and care for these dogs can make their contribution tax deductible. We have expanded our rescue efforts by fostering dogs as well as always having 18 at the sanctuary. join us in saving a life: Foster or adopt today.

Augh! I just couldn't write this post yesterday. This is Castro, aka Ben, from the downey shelter. We rescued Castro on March 2, 2025. He was in a wonderful foster home and had a great life for well over a year. Unfortunately, as with most dogs with arthritis in their back, hips, and legs, eventually getting up and moving is very difficult. Once Castro was helped to a standing position, he could walk a little as you can see in the video. What he couldnt do, was get up. He would struggle or fall over and bark to let us know he needed help. He was frustrated, and we didn't want him to suffer. Its always tough to say goodbye when their mind is sharp and they still have a great appetite. The lack of mobility is a major issue, especially when the dog is unhappy being immobile. So castro had eggs for breakfast and hamburger for lunch before we said goodbye on october 12, 2026.

Immediate need for a foster for this sweet, 15-year-old dog that was just owner surrendered at the Santa Clarita Valley/Castaic shelter today. I was at the shelter because one of my foster cats was getting adopted and outside tied to a pole was this cute little dog. The owner said his vet wanted to euthanize the dog because surgery was not an option. He couldn't afford the euthanasia, so he brought the dog to the shelter. She still has a lot of pep in her step and she needs a home to have the best of the rest of her life. The owner said she's quite healthy. Other than just huge mammary tumor. We couldnt let her spend any time in the kennels at the shelter, so she went right from the front office to the medical room to get her intake and exit exam. then she went to my car to go to a temporary foster. Call or email Susan with any questions. 818.636.1522 [email protected] # seniordogsgotgame

So we emailed the shelter about pulling a different small dog. The dog was already adopted, so the shelter asked us if we would consider saving pike, instead. His deadline was that day and he was at risk of being euthanized. So of course, we said, yes! So Pike, now Conman, is free. However, his story is not over. We had no time to network him for a forever home. So we're utilizing one of our temporary fosters to keep him safe. Let me tell you, this guy is the coolest little thing! he's super friendly. He's great with other dogs, both big and small. He walks on the leash. He's ten years old, neutered, and full of life and love. He'll get to our vet this week so we can do blood work and determine any medication he might need. we cover all medical. THIS IS THE ONLY POST ON THIS SENIOR CAT. PLEASE SHARE!!!!URGENT NEED FOR FOSTER OR ADOPTER! Brandy, from the harbor shelter BY 4PM,TUESDAY, 10/13/2026!

Brandy is a 13-year-old spayed female, gray and white Domestic Shorthair who was surrendered on 09/26/2026 due to relocation after reportedly spending 11 years in her home. According to her previous owner, she has hyperthyroidism and is sensitive around her hips. She previously lived with another cat and was described as gentle with adults, usually tolerant of children, and shy around strangers for the first few days.

The shelter issued this MEDICAL ALERT :Brandy has a reported history of hyperthyroidism, weakness in her hind legs, and possible blindness. Her previous owner brought Tapazole and Gabapentin medications with her at surrender.

During her 10/01 veterinary examination, Brandy was able to stand and walk. Her pupils were dilated with slow pupillary light responses, although her retinas appeared normal on examination.

Brandy has been very frightened in the shelter and has displayed hissing, growling, and swatting during handling. Given her age, medical needs, and possible vision impairment, she needs a patient, understanding home where she can receive appropriate veterinary care.

Our veterinary staff have determined that Brandy cannot be maintained in the shelter and must exit by the end of day, 4pm 10/13/2026.

This senior girl has spent most of her life in a home and now finds herself in an unfamiliar shelter environment. We are hoping a rescue or adopter can step forward and give Brandy the care, comfort, and stability she needs.
