🐾 Confidence Starts Under Their Feet! 🐾

One of the simplest ways to build a confident, adaptable puppy is by exposing them to a variety of surfaces early in life. Walking on different textures and performing simple behaviors like a sit, touch, or down on unusual surfaces teaches puppies that new things are nothing to fear.

Parks are full of great training opportunities! Bleachers, picnic tables, small platforms, rocks, playground borders, and even different types of pavement can help your puppy learn to navigate the world with confidence.

These experiences do more than improve balance and body awareness—they teach puppies to trust their handler when faced with something unfamiliar. Instead of avoiding new challenges, they learn to investigate, think, and succeed.

This foundation is especially valuable for future therapy dogs. Therapy dogs need to remain calm and confident in a wide variety of environments, from hospitals and schools to nursing homes and community events. A puppy that has learned early that strange surfaces are just another fun adventure is much more likely to handle new situations with ease.

Keep it positive, reward effort, and let your puppy discover that trying new things is rewarding. Today's bleachers could be tomorrow's therapy dog visit! ❤️🐾

Welcoming puppy Eve to Happy Trails! She is an Australian Cattle Dog and Jack Russell Terrier mix, which means she's got LOTS of energy. We are so excited to be visiting her 3 days a week!!
