🐾 A little update on fostering and plans for next season!

For the rest of this season, I’m planning to focus on the babies already here unless I can get some help restocking supplies. Food is at the top of that list! These little mouths keep me busy, and keeping everyone fed is a never-ending job.

Looking ahead, I want to put more of my focus on my own special-needs babies and making sure they’re getting all the time, attention, and care they deserve. ❤️ I also want to continue helping neonatal babies, bottle babies, and select medical or special-needs kittens when the right opportunities come along.

I’m learning that I need to be a little more intentional about the babies I take in and make sure I have what I need before saying yes. That means that, most of the time, supplies will need to be stocked or provided before I take on new fosters.

I’m also not really set up for older kittens indoors long-term, although my catio (when finished!) might be an option for some, depending on the situation.

I love fostering, but I want to keep things manageable and make sure I’m giving my best to the babies who need me most.

And of course, a little help from you guys always goes a long way! If you’d like to help keep the nursery stocked for the babies, food is always my biggest need, followed by litter and other supplies.

With around 50 kittens fostered just this season, I think it’s safe to say I’ve kept myself pretty busy! 😂 I’m tired, and the financial side of fostering has definitely added up. It’s time to slow down a little, focus on the babies who are already here, and be more intentional about what comes next.

This sweet baby girl 💕 Zadie!

She’s had her bath with antifungal shampoo and is enjoying a meal with some added probiotics and vitamins. But first, of course, she had to get warmed up. ❤️

We are not scared of a little ringworm around here. 😂 We’ll take ringworm over some of the other nasties these babies can bring home any day!

Blankets and bedding get washed regularly, precautions are in place, and we’re doing our best to keep everyone healthy while Zadie gets the care she needs. 🩷

Mako has been paired with sweet little SPCA girl Zadie, and that pairing happened about a week before we discovered she has ringworm. 🥴

So, we’re dealing with it! We’re taking precautions and doing our best to protect the other kittens. Hopefully, it’s enough. If not? We’ll deal with that, too. 🤷‍♀️

Honestly, I’ll take ringworm any day over some of the other awful things these babies endure. Coccidia and giardia, I’m looking at you. 🙄

But here’s the sad part: so many kittens in kill shelters never make it out because of ringworm. Many fosters, even experienced ones, simply cannot accommodate a contagious fungal infection in their homes. And kittens who contract it can become much harder to place, even though ringworm is treatable and usually far less frightening than its name suggests.

It’s a fungus, not a death sentence. ❤️

Luckily for Mako, he’s showing no signs of ringworm, although he has definitely been exposed. And the best news? His potential foster is absolutely wonderful, understanding, and perfectly okay with the possibility that Mako may have to deal with ringworm, too.

That kind of understanding makes such a difference. Because these babies deserve a chance, even when they come with a little extra baggage. 🩷🐾
