🇨🇦 DANIELLE SMITH SAYS ALBERTA CROWN GAS CORPORATION IS “UNLIKELY”
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says her government is unlikely to create a new Crown corporation to build natural-gas pipelines, following reports about a leaked cabinet document that outlined possible government intervention.
CityNews Calgary +1
The leaked document reportedly proposed creating Crown corporations and changing legislation to expand Alberta’s natural-gas transmission capacity, particularly as demand grows from AI data centres, oil production and other industries. Smith says the province is instead looking at private-sector solutions and greater competition.
CityNews Calgary +1
Smith has not ruled out other government measures aimed at encouraging new pipeline infrastructure, so the broader issue remains under discussion.
