Furrever Friday ❤️

We wanted to let everyone know that Mr. Wilbur is officially in his furrever home! A little note from his foster parents:

Dear Wilbur,

Thank you for trusting us to show you love and what indoor cat life can bring you. You gave us a gift of being able to hold you for the first time shortly after you went to your new home. This will forever be a gift I will cherish and consider it as you saying thank you. That right there is why we will continue helping those that need us. Continue being a stepping stone for those in their journey to furrever and continue to advocate for those most would have left behind. We love you Wilbee and we can’t wait to see you flourish in your new home. You won the jackpot with an amazing mom and a tripod brother just like you!

Xoxo your foster parents

Please consider donating to The Purrpose so we can continue helping those like Wilbur and advocate for those that need us most.

Found a kitten? Check this out!!

Our Head Meow is actively working on her Community Cat Program Management Certification and she could this aMEOWzing resource!!

Before taking a kitten from somewhere, take a look at this information!

Mom is probably out hunting. Clean, plump kittens sleeping in a heap are being cared for — watch from a distance for 4–6 hours before you move them.

Best MEWS Thursday!!!

86 days & 2.8 pounds later, the strut in his stuff is back!

If you don’t remember, this is Bob!

He has officially graduated to the FIP Purrvivor Club!!!! on October 20, our good friends at Bar S Vet Clinic declared Bob in remission!

Helping cat owners with the initial diagnosis and treatment of FIP is one of our special, special initiatives.

Why did we choose FIP as one of those initiatives? Because just like a community cat, these are sometimes cats that aren’t considered for treatment, or for help. Historically FIP has been a death sentence because of FDA non-approval on the medication until 2025. The other obstacle was availability of the medication in the United States.

Today neither of these things are a problem! While not all vets are comfortable treating FIP, understandably because of the historical fatality rate of this disease, there are vets out there that are making the lead, and treating these cats.

The survival rate for a cat that receives immediate diagnosis and treatment, skyrockets. The delay in treatment is what creates the complexity and the heartbreak that FIP causes.

In a couple of weeks, Bob and some of his fur buddies will go in for their spa day, to get them spayed and neutered. Seeing Bob, successfully overcome Neuro, or dry FIP, is another huge win for not only us, but for the cats of our community!

While most of our funding goes to trap neuter return, there is a small portion of funding that we reserve specifically for that early diagnosis and initial treatment of FIP.

It is because of our donors, that we didn’t have to say no when Bob’s dad reached out to us! From our hearts, and Bob’s paws, we thank you so much!

Okay...we've been MEOWing about containment...

We thought we'd give you a little more information. Keep in mind that we may have been a little exhausted after all of the efforts this last week, but, the good MEWs is that we've done so much work, across the county, that we purr-ay that we feel the difference next year (reduced intakes, less euthanasia, fewer kitten cries for help!)

We love our community, and we love what we do. Help us do more? Don't forget - donations are matched 100% through United Spay Alliance for our matching grant opportunity - double ear-tips!

Today. It was one of those. Up. Down. Up again.

Tonight. It’s not all okay, but tomorrow will be better.

Yesterday, we finished a colony. Tonight we finished another. Tomorrow, we take in several cats that their humans cared enough to ask for, and receive help with their beloved felines.

Several TNRs.

So many kittens made it into rescues and shelters.

Today, and so many other days, I see how we partner as rescues, as people. Moving together, doing what we do. Sharing our resources and knowledge.

And we support each other. We celebrate and we mourn. Together.

The kittens tho - they tear at our hearts. For me, and so many others, so do the mommas.

This last weekend our team worked on articulating our values. This one - “Mom First”. It’s not forsaking the kittens. It’s protecting those mommas that drive us. We save generations.

We save our hearts.

Crawling into bed tonight, I (your crazy Head Meow) can’t put into words how much I appreciate our team. Our volunteers.

There is a lot you see - but like with any rescue - there is so much you don’t. And that’s okay. Just know we’re giving everything we have.

Special thanks tonight to The Cat House, The Phoenix Remix Animal Rescue, Brave Animal Rescue, and all of your volunteers. To the people that step up - regardless of the hour. Cheers, and sweet dreams.

Did you know…a colony of 20 cats would cost us $1,000 to bring to containment?

With a budget of $3.3 million, and over $1 million of that going directly to our shelter services in Lincoln, Nebraska, you can imagine what the impact is, to your tax dollars, if we don’t find a way to bring cat colonies in our community to containment.

What does containment mean? That means that we get every reproducing cat sterilized in a particular area - a colony.

And then we watch. We engage our caretakers to have them watch. When they see an untipped ear, they either trap or ask for help. That cat is spayed/neutered and returned as a pawsitive contributor to their colony!!

Our tax dollars go directly to supporting our Animal Control teams, and they have contracts with local shelters.

Want to know how much?

https://citizenportal.ai/articles/6484857/Nebraska/Lancaster-County/Lincoln/Council-approves-larger-multiyear-contract-with-Capital-Humane-Society-adds-reporting-and-oversight-conditions

Please know that this is not a complaint or a judgement. This is education.

Both teams had to increase their budgets and fees because of the number of animals that go to the shelter. Spaying and neutering reduces their costs.

Kentucky, California, New Mexico and Florida have all conducted studies on the impact of sustained TNR and the significant reduction in costs and euthanasia for cat intakes.

We’re asking for a small portion so we can impact your bottom line.

Help us achieve our match with United Spay Alliance - and we’ll give you something you can wrap your tax dollars around (& the donation is tax deductible!!).

TNR #7...this equals containment. We know that there are still kittens hidden in the barn/shed somewhere, but she hasn't let them out yet. We will see them soon, but she'll be home with them in short order.

Making a decision to trap a fertile female after giving birth is not one for the light hearted. It's a balanced decision of knowing how old the kittens are, whether they're safely tucked into a space where they will be warm and safe from predators, and knowing when momma can be back with them.

It's a risk. Every time. Unless you know exactly where they are. We chose to take the risk because we have a GREAT caretaker that will be keeping their ears to the ground while momma is having her "spa"y day.

When she gets home, she'll continue raising and weaning them, and then they'll come forward. If we have the luck of finding them, we'll lean into rescue partners to see if we can get them into rescue. If not, we'll wait until they're big enough for TNR and we'll go back from them.

This is what we do. We wait. We watch. We count - the cats, the days, the amount of rain coming, the temperatures, everything. It all plays a factor in what we do.

Hearing the relief in our caretaker's voice is the thanks we need. It's the difference we make. Knowing that they don't have to keep looking for kittens after this last litter is something that they are looking forward to - and watching their mousers keep mousing!!

Don't forget! After today, she'll be TIPPED & TERRIFIC! Thanks to United Spay Alliance all donations are matched 100% up to $2000! Help us keep tipping!!

For every cat - specifically female - that is spayed, or TNRd, we save ~968 unplanned kitten births over 5 years.

Read that again - over 900 lives are saved that would otherwise be at risk - especially if born outside.

Our cost for TNR averages between $45 - $90 per cat. However, for every cat that goes to a shelter or rescue, the amount is around $350 (or more). The math, itself, is the key - if we save $250 per cat (if the TNR is at the higher end)...

We save $237,5000 over 5 years - FOR ONE CAT.

Do you want to pay the taxes that covers the intake, shelter and/or potential euthanasia for the cats that are NOT altered? Remember - this is when ONE cat is spayed.

Help us make a difference - we won't say no when someone needs help with TNR.

Coming off of Feral Friday (10/16/26), it's time for us to get FURreal.

We are SO excited to announce that we were selected to participate in Round 24 of the United Spay Alliance Grant Match for 2026!

What does this mean? For every dollar we raise - they're doubling the funds. Up to $2,000...that means we put $4,000 into our bank account so we don't have to say NO to any TNR that someone needs help with, or a colony that needs our support.

An ear tip is a badge of honor. It means a community cat was trapped, fixed, vaccinated and returned home. For every cat you help ear tip, the match ear tips an extra cat.

One gift, two tipped ears.

We've said all along - one group can't do it alone - but together we can change the story. Join us.

Every week, we'll give you an update on where our fundraising stands. We're hoping we can knock this out in 2 weeks! Do you think we can? We have 20+ requests for help right MEOW...help us say YES!

What's Your Excuse Wednesday?

We hear all the time - can you trap for me, I can't do it (or won't). Sometimes, this is truly the case - and yes, we will help, and we will trap. Because that's what we do.

Then...we get these moments...this couple needed help. Their "herd" was growing, and they couldn't afford to TNR the number of cats that were there (27, if memory serves). And, it's clear that mobility is an issue for her, and her husband is on a scooter. But...then we see this. While she can't lift the traps, she monitors them, covers them and lets the team know when she has a cat in a trap.

She is so ridiculously grateful, as are we, to Lincoln Animal Ambassadors and their partnership for the Barn Cat Program that they brought to life with us this year. Because of a single donor, we are making a dent in the farm, acreage and barn locations in and around Lincoln and Lancaster County, Nebraska.

Successful trapping and containment is driven by ONE thing. Caretaker cooperation. Feeding on schedule, in the right place, and being a part of the effort is how we can stop the reproduction and improve the lives of the cats that are spayed/neutered & vaccinated.

Interested in learning more? More details are available here: https://thepurrpose.org/barn-cats-of-nebraska

We're hoping that we can continue our efforts, but want to stress that it shouldn't be the burden of one person to fund the efforts. We're lucky to have the special donor - but, we have a LOT of cats to get to!

Help us continue not just now, but in the FURture!
