Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue is a 501(c)(3) focused on saving donkeys from abuse and neglect. EIN: 87-2472396 Definitely!

Frequently asked questions:

1) Where do you get the donkeys? Donkeys at the rescue come mainly from owner surrender, auctions, and kill pens. At times, people find that they are unable to care for their donkey due to time or financial constraints, special needs or behavioral issues. We accept all donkeys in need regardless of age, illness, body condition, or adoptability. We attend auctions that are also attended by "kill buyers" and save as many as we can get away from them. At times there are donkeys in kill pens that are not getting "bailed" and are slated for shipment to slaughter. We try to help the most needy get out prior to shipment.

2) Do you adopt out donkeys? We usually have around 300 donkeys on site and love when we can join donkeys with a wonderful new human family. We do not adopt out intact males and do not condone breeding donkeys. With so many donkeys in need, including pregnant ones, we feel there is no reason to breed more.

3) How much land is needed for a donkey? Ideally, your donkey should have an acre or so or 1.5-2 acres for 2. Donkeys are very social and it is best if they have a friend.

4) What all is needed to care for a donkey? Donkeys should have a shelter such as a barn or lean to shed to get out of the wind, rain and snow. Their fur is not the same as a horse, and they are more affected by the elements.

5) How much do you charge for adoption? Adoption fees for donkeys are $400 and $300 for mini horses and mules. That donkey will come gelded, microchipped with a temperature sensing chip, dewormed, feet trimmed, teeth check/floated, and the first vaccines.

6) How can we help the rescue? There are a number of ways you can help. Direct donations - we depend on donations to help feed the donkeys and pay for their medical and farrier care. We are also improving and expanding the rescue acreage and welcome donations property improvement. These improvements will help us save more donkeys and provide a better environment for those we have.

Volunteer - we realize that many followers live far away and cannot come volunteer. But for those who are nearby, we could definitely use help. We will take however much time you can give. We hope to have scheduled work weekends during good weather to do everything from cleaning stalls and working open house events to clearing land and building. Forget what you’ve seen in cowboy movies. We have our own version of a stampede here at Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue, and trust us, it comes with a whole lot of ears, hooves, and donkey personalities!

Imagine hearing all those hooves coming your way as a whole herd of donkeys decides it’s time to move together. One starts running, another follows, and before you know it, the entire scene turns into a parade of fuzzy faces and bouncing ears!

Now, we have to wonder… where do you think they’re all going?

Are they racing toward breakfast? Did somebody mention treats? Or is one donkey simply running for the fun of it, and everyone else decided to join the party?

If you’ve spent any time around donkeys, you know that once one gets an idea, the others might just follow along!

Here's our question for you: If you were standing in the pasture and saw a whole herd of donkeys running toward you, what would you do?

A. Stand there and take a hundred pictures.

B. Start laughing because those ears are bouncing everywhere.

Happy Monday from Jack, our gentle giant! 🫏

Good morning, everyone! It's Jack here at Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue, sending you a little extra love to start your week!

I may be one of the mammoths here at PPDR, but don't let my size fool you. Behind this big body is a heart full of sweetness! ❤️ I'm a loving boy who enjoys affection, spending time with my people, and reminding everyone that sometimes the biggest donkeys have the gentlest hearts.

There's something special about a donkey who chooses to come close, lean in for some love, or simply stand beside you and enjoy a quiet moment together. Those little moments mean so much, and I never want my humans to forget how much joy a little donkey affection can bring.

So, here's my Monday reminder for you: you don't have to be small to be gentle, and you don't have to say much to show someone you care. Sometimes, a little kindness and a loving presence are more than enough to brighten someone's day.

If I could send each of you a Monday hug, I would! Although, fair warning… a hug from a mammoth like me might be a pretty BIG hug! 😂

💛 $5 Friday: Every Resident Has a Story

Every donkey at Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue has a story. Some arrived frightened, some needed medical attention, and others simply needed a safe place where they could finally be themselves.

Now, all 52 of our residents have something in common: they have a place to call home.

From the curious ones who come looking for attention to the playful troublemakers who keep us on our toes, every resident brings something special to Peaceful Pastures. Some want all the scratches and affection they can get, while others prefer to enjoy their space and watch the world go by.

And we love them just the way they are. ❤️

But giving them a safe home also means making sure their everyday needs are met. Hay, feed, medical supplies, hoof care, and veterinary visits are all part of caring for our herd.

If our donkeys could leave reviews about life at PPDR, what do you think they would say?

I can already imagine some of them writing complaints about treats not arriving fast enough, while others would give five stars just for the extra scratches, attention, and all the love they receive.

And you know there would be at least one donkey who thinks they deserve special treatment every single day. No waiting in line, no sharing treats, and absolutely no accepting that someone else got a cookie first!

Living with 52 donkeys at Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue means there’s never a shortage of personalities, funny moments, and little surprises. Some are sweet and affectionate, some are curious about everything, and others have mastered the art of looking innocent even when they’re up to something.

But that’s what makes them so special. Every donkey has their own personality, preferences, and funny little habits that make us smile. Even the simplest moments can turn into memories we carry with us throughout the day.

Now, we have a fun question for all our donkey-loving friends!

Good morning, everyone! Wilbur here, reporting for my very important daily duties at Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue.

You might think my morning routine involves waking up, stretching my legs, checking on my friends, and enjoying the fresh air. Well, you're not entirely wrong! But there's one task that comes before everything else: making sure I get my treats FIRST! 😂

That's right. I have a schedule to maintain, people to supervise, and treats to collect. I simply cannot allow the day to get too far along without taking care of the most important business. And if my human happens to forget, don't worry. I know how to remind them!

Some might call it being spoiled. I prefer to call it having excellent priorities. After all, why wait when treats are involved? 😉

So here's Wilbur's Monday advice: start your week with enthusiasm, know what makes you happy, and never be afraid to ask for a little extra sweetness in your day.

Some mornings just start better with a donkey.

Meet Rosa. She’s one of the donkeys who makes sure I get a proper greeting every morning at Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue.

No matter how busy the day might be, having Rosa come over to say hello is one of those little moments that makes everything feel a little better.

Sometimes she wants attention. Sometimes she’s hoping I have a treat. And sometimes I think she just wants to make sure I know she’s there.

These are the moments that make caring for 52 donkeys so special. Every donkey has their own personality, their own way of showing affection, and their own little routines.

Happy Monday from Clarissa! 🫏💛

Good morning, everyone! It’s Clarissa checking in from Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue to wish you all a very happy Monday!

If you don’t know my story yet, let me tell you a little about how I came to be here.

I was just a tiny baby when I was injured and rejected by my mother. I was the 7th baby that Beth had the opportunity to raise, and I needed someone to give me the love, care, and chance I deserved.

I was little, vulnerable, and my beginning wasn’t easy—but look at me now. ❤️

Today, I get to wake up safe, surrounded by other donkeys, with food in my belly and people who love me. My story is a reminder that sometimes the smallest lives need someone willing to say, “You matter. I’m not giving up on you.”

And that's exactly what Mondays are about, right?

A new week. A fresh start. Another chance to keep going.

So whatever you're facing today, take it from me, Clarissa: don't worry about how far you have to go. Just take it one little step at a time. 🫏

🫏💛 $5 Friday: Look How Far Tony Has Come

Look at these two pictures of Tony.

It’s hard to believe they’re the same donkey.

In the first photo, Tony was just a tiny 3-month-old baby, alone and unsure of what his future would hold. He needed someone to step in and give him a chance.

And today… look at him. ❤️

He’s grown into a happy, healthy young donkey, living outside with Ashley, Amy, and Angela. He has friends, space to explore, a safe place to call home, and most importantly—a future.

That little baby who once needed to be held close and cared for is now out there living his life.

This is why we rescue.

Because sometimes, giving one small, frightened life a chance can change everything.

And there are still young donkeys out there who need someone to step forward.
