Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue is a 501(c)(3) focused on saving donkeys from abuse and neglect. EIN: 87-2472396 Definitely!

Frequently asked questions:

1) Where do you get the donkeys? Donkeys at the rescue come mainly from owner surrender, auctions, and kill pens. At times, people find that they are unable to care for their donkey due to time or financial constraints, special needs or behavioral issues. We accept all donkeys in need regardless of age, illness, body condition, or adoptability. We attend auctions that

are also attended by "kill buyers" and save as many as we can get away from them. At times there are donkeys in kill pens that are not getting "bailed" and are slated for shipment to slaughter. We try to help the most needy get out prior to shipment.

2) Do you adopt out donkeys? We usually have around 300 donkeys on site and love when we can join donkeys with a wonderful new human family. We do not adopt out intact males and do not condone breeding donkeys. With so many donkeys in need, including pregnant ones, we feel there is no reason to breed more.

3) How much land is needed for a donkey? Ideally, your donkey should have an acre or so or 1.5-2 acres for 2. Donkeys are very social and it is best if they have a friend.

4) What all is needed to care for a donkey? Donkeys should have a shelter such as a barn or lean to shed to get out of the wind, rain and snow. Their fur is not the same as a horse, and they are more affected by the elements.

5) How much do you charge for adoption? Adoption fees for donkeys are $400 and $300 for mini horses and mules. That donkey will come gelded, microchipped with a temperature sensing chip, dewormed, feet trimmed, teeth check/floated, and the first vaccines.

6) How can we help the rescue? There are a number of ways you can help. Direct donations - we depend on donations to help feed the donkeys and pay for their medical and farrier care. We are also improving and expanding the rescue acreage and welcome donations property improvement. These improvements will help us save more donkeys and provide a better environment for those we have.

Volunteer - we realize that many followers live far away and cannot come volunteer. But for those who are nearby, we could definitely use help. We will take however much time you can give. We hope to have scheduled work weekends during good weather to do everything from cleaning stalls and working open house events to clearing land and building. Whatever your talents, I know we can find something to utilize them. Hopefully this answers some of the more common questions. Please do not hesitate to message with further questions.

$5 Friday: Help Us Tackle the Hay Bill 💛🧾🌾

One of the biggest expenses at Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue is something our donkeys can’t live without… hay.

With over 200 rescued donkeys depending on us each day, the hay bill adds up quickly. Bale after bale disappears as hungry donkeys gather for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and all the munching in between.

For many of our rescues, constant access to hay is especially important. Seniors, underweight donkeys, and those recovering from neglect rely on it to maintain weight, stay healthy, and feel comfortable.

No matter the season, the hay must keep coming—and we never want a donkey to go without.

This $5 Friday, we’re asking for help with the hay bill that keeps our herd fed and thriving.

💛 Your $5 helps put another bale in the barn and another full belly in the pasture.

Together, we can keep the hay piles high and the donkeys happy.

How can something THIS cute even be real?! 💛

Those long floppy ears…
Those soft fuzzy noses…
Those big soulful eyes that somehow look innocent even when they’re stealing treats 😂🍪

Donkeys have a special kind of cuteness that sneaks right into your heart. One little head tilt, one tiny bray, one curious nose boop—and suddenly your entire day is better. 💕

And let’s not forget their personalities! Some are goofy, some are dramatic, some are sweet little cuddle bugs… but every single one has a charm that’s impossible to resist.

Honestly, we may be biased… but we think donkeys are some of the cutest souls on earth. 🫏✨

💬 Tell us—what’s YOUR favorite adorable donkey feature?
The ears? The noses? The fuzzy faces? The tiny brays? 👇💛

Happy Monday from Gomer at Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue! 🌞

Gomer wanted to be the first to say good morning and wish everyone a wonderful start to the week! With his sweet face, gentle eyes, and lovable personality, he’s here to remind you that Mondays are a little easier when you begin them with kindness, patience, and maybe a few treats. 🫏💛

Out in the pasture, Gomer enjoys the simple things — a fresh pile of hay, good company, sunshine on his back, and checking pockets to make sure no cookies are being hidden from him. He believes life is best lived one calm step at a time, and honestly, that’s pretty good advice for a Monday.

No matter what your week looks like ahead, Gomer hopes you remember to slow down when needed, appreciate the little moments, and keep moving forward — even if it’s at donkey speed.

From sweet Gomer and all of us at PPDR, have a peaceful Monday and a beautiful week ahead! 💕

$5 Friday: Help Us Keep the Hay Piles Full 💛🫏🌾

Nothing makes our donkeys happier than fresh hay.

The second the hay arrives, little ears perk up, happy brays fill the air, and the herd gathers around excited for their favorite part of the day. For many of our rescues, having unlimited hay is something they never had before.

Hay is more than just food for donkeys—it helps keep their digestive systems healthy, keeps them warm during rough weather, and gives comfort to those still recovering from neglect and starvation.

With over 200 donkeys at Peaceful Pastures, we go through an incredible amount of hay every single day, and keeping those hay piles full is one of our biggest ongoing needs.

This $5 Friday, you can help feed the herd.

💛 Your $5 helps purchase hay bales for the rescued donkeys who depend on us every day.

Every bale means full bellies, happy donkeys, and another reminder that they are finally safe and cared for.

Helping Donkeys Starts With Kindness 🫏💛

Every donkey here at Peaceful Pastures has a story. Some came to us hungry, neglected, scared, or forgotten. Some arrived with painful hooves, untreated medical issues, or simply no safe place left to go.

But because of compassionate people like YOU… their stories didn’t end there. 🌿✨

Your donations help turn fear into trust, emptiness into full bellies, and uncertainty into safety. Every contribution—whether it’s $1, a bag of feed, a monthly donation, or simply sharing our posts—helps us continue caring for the donkeys already here and prepares us to help the next one in need. 💕

Your support helps provide:
🌾 Hay and grain
🩺 Vet care and medications
🐾 Farrier visits
🏡 Safe shelter and fencing
🧸 Treats, toys, and enrichment
💛 Love, patience, and second chances

Sometimes people think they need to give something huge to matter. But the truth is, it’s the small acts of kindness, multiplied by many caring hearts, that keep this rescue going every single day.

Together, we are giving these donkeys the life they always deserved. 🫏✨

Thank you for believing in rescue. Thank you for believing in them. 💛

Happy Monday from the donkeys of Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue! ☀️

A brand-new week has arrived, and the herd is already hard at work doing the important things in life — eating hay, asking for treats, and making sure everyone starts the morning with a smile.

The donkeys may not know what day it is, but they do know how to enjoy the moment. They remind us that life feels a little lighter when you slow down, appreciate the simple things, and spend time with those who make you feel safe and loved.

As you head into this new week, don’t forget to give yourself grace. Some days will be smooth, some days a little muddy, but step by step, you’ll get where you need to go. And if all else fails… maybe a snack will help. The donkeys strongly believe in that advice. 🫏💛

From all of us at PPDR, we’re wishing you a peaceful Monday, a productive week, and plenty of reasons to smile.

$5 Friday: Loving the Seniors Who Need Us Most 💛🫏👴

Not all of our donkeys are young and full of energy.
Many of the donkeys at Peaceful Pastures are seniors who now need extra love, softer feed, medications, and special care as they age.

Some have arthritis.
Some struggle to keep weight on.
Some need daily medications or extra monitoring to stay comfortable.

But despite their gray muzzles and slower steps, they still light up at treat time, enjoy gentle hugs, and deserve to live out their golden years surrounded by kindness and comfort.

This $5 Friday, help us care for the senior donkeys who spent much of their lives giving to others and now need people to care for them.

💛 Your $5 helps provide senior feed, hay, medications, and specialized care for our older donkeys.

Because growing old should never mean being forgotten.

Ever wondered what it takes to feed 800 hooves?

Running a rescue isn’t just about the quiet moments and forehead scratches (though we love those!). When you have over 200 rescued donkeys under one roof, the "daily errands" turn into a massive logistical operation!

From hauling tons of specialized hay to outsmarting 200+ curious minds who think every gate latch is a toy, our supply runs are the heartbeat of this mission. Whether it's "senior mash" for our older residents or medical supplies for our newest arrivals, keeping the engine running at Peaceful Pastures is a 24/7 job.

In our latest blog, we’re taking you behind the scenes of The Supply Run. Come see how your support translates into real-world care for our long-eared family!

Even on the Hard Days, They’re Worth It 🌧️

Rescue work isn’t always easy.

There are muddy boots, freezing mornings, late-night feedings, heavy water buckets, and days that leave us completely exhausted. There are moments of worry, setbacks, and heartbreak that people don’t always see behind the photos.

But then… there are the donkeys.

The ones who run up to greet you at the gate.
The ones who finally gain weight after weeks of careful feeding.
The quiet souls who slowly learn that human hands can be gentle.

And suddenly, every hard day feels worth it.

Because watching a donkey go from surviving to truly living again is something impossible to put into words. Seeing them safe, warm, loved, and surrounded by friends reminds us why we keep going.

These donkeys may never know just how many lives they change in return, but they do. Every single day. 💛
