I see a lot of catteries trying to pit customers against each other. It’s honestly really frustrating.
At the end of the day a 100% percent healthy cat can go home and have absolutely anything happen. Many of the things that are tested for with Maine c***s don’t present themselves until after a year old. That’s why testing the parents is the standard of care to hopefully eventually eliminate the issue.
With that being said that is the current recommendation via American Veterinarian Medical Association and TICA for preventative care of the bloodlines however the true cause of some of the biggest issues with Maine c***s aren’t 100% known. Until now it’s been theorized that genetics play a big part but recent studies are now concluding that things such as diet and home life contribute more than initially thought to some of the issues. Of course there is invaluable information that can be brought to the surface from genetic testing such as genetics related to HCM, PKA and SMA but at the end of the day anything can present as the kitten ages.
I say all this to say that the loudest opinions of don’t trust this person unless xy&z are most likely someone simply trying to sell you on their cattery. Let’s be honest. This is a hobby business. Many of us break even or have a slight profit which inevitably gets wiped out by vet costs but at the end of the day the goal is to place kittens and receive compensation for such.
My heartfelt opinion as someone who is solely sick of seeing the back and forth passive aggression is this. Choose the relationship with the cattery. Not the cat. If you have someone that your able to bounce information off of, share updates, ask questions and life long support that is far more valuable than being sold on things that aren’t even directly from the kitten your purchasing.
With that being said going into October of 2026 the pairing of Halo and Rollie doesn’t seem to have taken and we do not expect anymore kittens for the remainder of the year. Please make sure to like and follow the page for updates. And as always reach out with any questions.
