🐾 What a Balanced Meal Looks Like for My 70lb Dog
Ok, let me break it down for you — feeding fresh food isn’t just tossing meat in a bowl. Balance matters if you want your dog healthy, shiny, and happy. Here’s how I usually do it for a 70lb dog:
Rough ratios:
• 70–80% muscle meat – think beef, chicken, turkey, whatever your dog likes.
• 10% raw meaty bones – for calcium and crunch.
• 5% liver – nature’s multivitamin.
• 5% other organs – kidney, spleen, pancreas.
• Optional 5–10% veggies/berries – I usually blend broccoli, spinach, pumpkin, or blueberries for fiber and antioxidants.
Calcium-to-phosphorus ratio:
• Super important for bones. You want about 1:1 to 1.2:1. Muscle meat has a lot of phosphorus, so the bones (or crushed eggshell) make up the calcium side.
Example daily amount for a 70lb dog:
• Around 2–2.5lbs total food (roughly 2.5–3% of body weight). Mix in muscle meats, organs, some raw meaty bones, veggies, and occasional fish for omega-3s.
Honestly, when I started feeding this way, I noticed Mylo’s energy and coat changed within a few weeks. It’s not exact science, but paying attention to balance and variety makes a huge difference.
