Hound's Tooth Academy offers all levels of obedience training, CGC and CGCA Testing, STAR Puppy Classes and Private training both in our facility and at your location. Trainer Kat Carter has more than a decade of experience training companion dogs. She is a member of the IACP and the APDT, as well as an AKC CGC Evaluator, and a Pet First Aid Instructor. Kat believes that every dog and every household can benefit from training and that it should be affordable and accessible to all owners. Hound's Tooth Academy believes the key to a great training experience and great results is finding the right methods for each family and each dog that comes through our doors.

Saturday mornings at 10:30am are our Public Manners Drop In Classes! If your dog already has some basic skills but needs to work on behavior in public, come join us! Classes are drop in style so no weekly commitment, just sign up, drop in, and learn! $25 per class or monthly Membership $65 for unlimited attendance!

To join this class, your dog should know sit, stay, come, and loose leash walking at home. If they don't yet, come join us for a 5 week Beginner Obedience Class so they can accomplish that first!

Sherman and Coco are wrapping up their Level One Programs, and we couldn’t be prouder of the progress they’ve made! Both dogs have been working hard on their obedience and everyday manners, building a strong foundation for continued success.

Our Inboard Program doesn’t end when a dog comes home. Owner follow-up is a vital part of the process. We work closely with owners to help them understand their dog’s training, maintain consistency, and confidently apply what their dogs have learned in everyday life.

Training is a team effort, and long-term success comes from both ends of the leash! We look forward to continuing to work with Sherman, Coco, and their owners as they put their new skills into practice.

You know how everything is getting more expensive?

We've decided to keep that from happening with our classes. In an effort to keep client costs down, Hound's Tooth Academy is going MOBILE this fall!

We have loved our location on Main St in Lexington, and our landlord is the best around. But keeping a facility is expensive! And those costs get passed on to you, the client. We'll miss our facility. But we want to be able to provide the best service possible to our clients while maintaining affordability. Our trainers are regular people who feel the pinch at the grocery store too!

Our Beginner Obedience Class is cost is being REDUCED by $30 (when was the last time something went down, it's gotta be big deal these days 🤣), and our Public Manners classes are going to a drop in style format. We are so excited about these changes!

We will still be in our facility through Thanksgiving, and we want to give a really huge thanks to our wonderful landlord for 3 years in our location. We've had 4 facilities in the last 15 years and this one was by far our favorite!

We are now offering at least 2 pack walks a week! Starting in Oct we will be offering 3 per week.

Pack walks are a safe, fun way to get some exercise, socialize with other dog lovers, work on your dog being "neutral" around new dogs, and explore local parks and hiking trails! Pack walks are $10 each, or our Pack Walk Membership is $25 per month for UNLIMITED walks.

Currently walks meet on Thurs mornings and Sunday Mornings at 9am. Starting in October they will meet Thursday, Saturday and Sunday Mornings at 9am. When you are signed up for a walk, you'll receive a text with that weeks location!

We are excited to announce a NEW option, based on client feedback! Beginning Oct 24th, our Public Manners/Level 2 class will become DROP IN STYLE! That means no commitment to weekly classes. Just sign up as you can, attend and help your dog learn to be on their best behavior in public!

Every Saturday at 10:30 am, Public Manners Drop In will meet at various dog friendly locations in and around Lexington, NC. We will practice public manners essentials; heel, stay with distractions, come when called, greeting people and passing dogs politely. This drop in is designed for dogs who have already completed our Beginner Class or have equivalent skill level.

Classes are $25 per session, or we offer a Public Manners Membership that provides UNLIMITED Drop in Classes for $65 month!

Check out our last Structured Neutrality Class on graduation day! Lots of calm, confident walking going on!

The Structured Neutrality program is for reactive or fearful dog who get overstimulated and bark, scream, lunge and pull when they see other dogs.

We work on building confidence building, calmness, leash skills and focus around other dogs. Our next round starts Sept 26th at 1:30. The 5 week class costs $325 and includes all needed equipment.
