The most sweetest Junie is still looking for her forever home 🩷

Junie spent the majority of her life on a strip mine. She did start off with humans and is thankful to be back with them again. She has unfortunately been passed over time and time again and is the last of the ALI horses to find an adoption or transfer 😭

It makes me so sad for her as she is one of the easiest gals we have ever had come through the rescue. She's always the first to greet you at the gate, loves to be brushed and cared for. She is halter trained and easy to work around.

Junie the boss lady of the feild after years of survival but gets along with both mares and geldings.

Junie has a bit of age to her, but she has plenty of life left to live outside of the mountain tops of Coal Country. She is extremely intelligent and would thrive with someone who wants to pursue liberty or she would also make a very pretty pasture pet.

Junie has lived a tough life, but I just know her perfect person is out there to show her all she has missed out on.

She is available for approved, low cost adoption or rescue transfer 🩷

Just a Goose and his Goslings 🩷🪿🐤🐤🐤

More often than not when foals needed critical, life saving care and needed to be removed from the wild, their mothers could not go with them.

Most required extensive hospitalization and having a wild Momma in the hospital stall would have made treatment impossible. By the time they were medically cleared to come home, their Mommas milk supply would be long dried up.

There is only so much we as humans can teach an orphan foal and thats were Uncle Goose stepped in. Big or small, sweet or feisty, broken or whole he loved them all and took them under his wing, giving them not only companionship but guidance.

After his retirement following a career ending injury in 2021, Goose needed a new calling and it's safe to say he found it in raising wildling babies 🩷

This old man's journey to find health was nothing short of remarkable to witness. He has been heavy on my mind this week as I tackle a few chapters about him that I have been putting off.

The One-Eyed John Mule was the true animal embodiment of resilience and it was a privilege to have helped him know health again, and know that he had a kind end when it mattered most 🩷

Nothing but quality minerals, strategic population reduction and a few years of kindness 🌻

For quite some time, folks have hounded me to write a book. Well, I have been taking the winter to do just that!

In the meantime, I am starting a Patreon to share chapters and tales from the book.

It is the story of living amongst the herds in Coal Country and all that has been built and lost and a million stories in between. From waking to Elk surrounding the truck in the dead of night, to gaining the trust of hundreds of horses across the region, to what really happened at Middle Ground and Elsewhere.

There are still 5 paid member spots to get a free signed first edition once the book is completed. Signing up for a free membership does not count and also doesn't get you access to chapters.

I’m aiming to go into editing by Spring and publishing some time this Summer, but I will be posting 3 or 4 chapters a month on the Patreon.

What a journey it has been 🩷

These three boys sure did hit the jackpot 🩷

Who remembers Shoulder Guy, Aang and Frog Prince (Now Eros, Aang and Ozzy). They were all adopted to the same farm back in November and have been continuing to grow and thrive since.

Eros was gathered last April after he was struck with an off road machine and needed immediate medical attention. He rehabbed wonderfully, has no lasting damage and has a long life ahead of him.

Aang was gathered, along with his momma, during the height of an industrial scale solar installation that came to their home mountain. His momma was struggling greatly to keep up with his needs and the pair lived at Middle Ground to regain their health.

Ozzy was gathered along with his herd and relocated to Elsewhere where they were able rest. Ozzy was the only surviving foal in his herd prior to gather and they lived in the most dangerous parts of solar construction for quite some time before gather.

These three littles represent more than three young horses who defied the odds, they are three living examples of horses who would not have made it without our help. They not only made it out, they rehabbed, grew and found their perfect human partners.

Thankful for them, our supporters who helped make so many miracles happen and thankful to our incredible adopters who love them so very much 🩷

Who remembers our sweet boy Gerald? 🩷

Now called Pan, in honor of his racing name, he’s checking in from a life that finally reflects the dignity he always deserved with Blazehorsephotography.

Late last spring, several 911 calls came in reporting “a very sick horse wandering along a busy road.” The county judge’s office reached out to ALI, asking if there was any way we could help.

As always, I dropped everything.
“I’ll do my best,” I told them.

When I arrived at the location where the horse was said to be living, it became immediately clear that he wasn’t sick. He was, in fact, starving to death.

Pan stood hidden behind a cluster of trailer homes, confined to what had once been an old hog pen. The only barrier between him and the road was a few frayed ropes strung across a gap in rusted wire fencing. It was no place for any living being, especially not an old racing Standardbred.

He was a true 1 on the body condition scale. If half-points existed, he would have fallen even lower. Every bone pressed sharply against his skin. His head hung low, his strength nearly gone. He was exhausted.

We were able to purchase him for $600 and transport him to Middle Ground, where his long, careful journey back to health could finally begin. At his level of emaciation, Pan was at extreme risk for refeeding syndrome and introducing nutrition too quickly could have sent his fragile system into complete collapse.

He arrived at death’s door.
And he knocked again more than once along the way.

But this handsome old soul persisted.

Today, Pan continues to heal slowly and steadily embracing the quiet comfort of retirement and greeting every new friend with the gentle grace that seems to be part of his nature. He is safe. He is seen. And he is loved.

Way to go, Pan. 🩷

Minerals matter 🩷

Autumn's transformation through the years shows just how life-changing in the field mineral intervention can be.

2025 was the year I chose the bear and chose safety over a mission I whole heartedly believed in.
