Lives and dreams cut short and families broken. We remember and miss these two…slow down, move over and pay attention!

Second Annual Move Over, Slow Down Awareness Campaign

This week, the Levelland Police Department will begin our Second Annual Move Over, Slow Down Campaign for Animal Control, a week dedicated to raising awareness about roadway safety while remembering two members of our department who are deeply missed.

This campaign is held in memory of Animal Control Officers Jonathan “Jon” Corder and Crystal Goforth, who were involved in a tragic line-of-duty incident on October 13, 2022, while serving the City of Levelland. Crystal lost her life that day, and Jon passed away on October 27 from the injuries he sustained.

Throughout the week, we will share reminders about the importance of slowing down, moving over, and remaining alert when approaching emergency personnel and others working along our roadways.

When approaching a stopped vehicle with flashing warning lights, remember:

MOVE OVER — When it is safe to do so.

SLOW DOWN — If you cannot safely move over.

PAY ATTENTION — Because someone's life may depend on it.

For our department, this campaign is personal. It is not simply about reminding drivers of the law. It is about remembering Jon and Crystal, honoring their service, and doing what we can to help prevent another family or community from experiencing such a tremendous loss.

We hope you will take a moment this week to follow along, share these reminders, and help us spread a message that truly matters.

Move Over. Slow Down. Save Lives.

In memory of Jon Corder and Crystal Goforth. Forever remembered, never forgotten.
