Passion can only carry you so far.

Fido & Friends was built to help our community — but we cannot continue relying on the same 5 volunteers and 3 consistent donors to keep an entire organization going.

Our volunteers are burnt out. Our inventory is constantly depleted. The need continues to grow, but unfortunately, the support needed to meet that need has not grown with it.

We started Fido with so much passion and hope. But when helping begins taking a toll on the very people giving everything they have, something has to change.

To the small group who continuously showed up, donated, volunteered and believed in this mission — thank you. You kept Fido going as long as we possibly could. 💛🐾

To better serve our community as we continue to grow, we’ve updated our phone number! This change allows multiple volunteers to respond more efficiently, even while we’re out in the community helping pets and their families.

We sincerely apologize for any confusion during this transition and appreciate your patience while everyone gets used to the new number.

We’re also hopeful that this improved system will help us reopen our delivery program soon, something we’ve been working hard toward. 💜

Today’s pantry was honestly a great one. 💙

It was nice to slow down for a bit and really have the time to sit and talk with each family instead of feeling like we were rushing from one person to the next.

Of course, we were also reminded once again of the heartbreaking cat overpopulation crisis here in St. Mary’s County.

All it takes is one unspayed female cat to produce dozens of kittens in a single year. Those kittens grow up, have kittens of their own, and before you know it… 1 turns into 100, then 1,000.

Spaying and neutering truly is one of the biggest ways we can make a lasting difference. Every surgery prevents countless unwanted litters and helps reduce the number of cats struggling to survive outdoors or ending up in shelters and rescues.

We’re also looking for a few dedicated volunteers who would like to make a real impact in our community by helping with our TNR efforts. We especially need people willing to:
🐾 Deliver humane traps
🐾 Assist elderly or disabled residents with trapping cats
🐾 Provide transportation to and from spay/neuter appointments

Even if you can only help once or twice a month, it can make a tremendous difference for both the cats and the families trying to do the right thing.

Update on ALL Deliveries & Assistance Requests

Due to limited inventory and a shortage of volunteers, all individual delivery requests and personal assistance requests are temporarily on hold until our inventory can be replenished and stay replenished enough to reopen deliveries.

At this time, we are no longer able to support both our community pantry events and individual deliveries. To ensure we can continue helping the greatest number of families possible, we have made the difficult decision to operate exclusively through our pet food pantry events for the foreseeable future.

We understand this may be disappointing, and this was not a decision we made lightly. As donations increase and volunteer support grows, we hope to reinstate delivery services in the future.

If you are in need of pet food, our next pantry will be this Saturday at Ridge Volunteer Fire Department. Our main Community Pet Pantry is held on the third Wednesday of every month at the well pet clinic.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support as we work to keep this program sustainable for our community. 🐾💜
