Callie's Custom Halters

Callie's Custom Halters Hand-made Rope Halters, Leads, Mecates, Reins, and more...Made in North Idaho! Now I'm shipping world-wide! I love nothing more than making new color combos!

It began 2014, when I started selling a few rope halters to fellow 4-H’ers as a hobby, and it expanded from there! The current CCH Custom Halter was born in 2017 when I was brainstorming how to make a fancy halter that did not sacrifice usability. I’m very selective in what I like or don’t like when it comes to what I use on my horses. And I do not like cheap rope halters with big soft nosebands,

because it defeats the purpose of what a rope halter is designed for. So my Halters have a firm and narrower noseband so you do not lose the feel of the traditional rope halter. In the summer of 2019, I started working with the double-braid Yacht Rope so I could provide more products, colors, and options. Now I offer higher-quality Mecates, Reins, & Leads for affordable prices! Every item is hand-made by me with USA-made materials, and each item is made-to-order and unique, that’s why I don’t accept returns or exchanges. If you are not sure on a size or length, please let me know as I can help. If you have an idea for an item that is not listed, send a message and I may be able to do it for you! I test all my products on my own horses, and have far too many Mecates and Halters than I need! I love the feel of the Yacht Rope for groundwork, colt-starting, or any training, it has also proved quite durable and hardy. The Custom Halters are fancy and definitely get you noticed at shows! Thanks For Visiting & Happy Trails!

Paracord Buttons be requested for all of my Reins (and Mecates). They are used as grips, or like the knots in store-bought reins, except these can be moved wherever you need them! They are super tight, so they won't move without some serious effort, but they do slide.
Great for mobility issues, keeping reins even, and kids. My Cowboy Dressage friends use them by setting them up for different gaits, one for Working gaits, the other for Extended gaits. Pretty smart!

I'm currently working on restocking the oh-so-popular Rope Clips, as well, updating halters and leads.

It's that time of year! 🍂🦌 Wear your orange!
Although I do have unfortunate news, the Neon Orange is being discontinued by my supplier, along Neon Green and Yellow.
Yes, I am sad about it, thanks for asking.
So get those orders in before it runs out.
Also, a bunch of colors for the Neckropes has been discontinued as well, although I can still get a few left over hanks as the moment....

I'm headed to CA for a couple weeks in September, so the Etsy Shop is closed. Don't worry, current orders will ship as normal!
I'm planning a big re-stock of Rope Clips and Bucket Hangers, and beefing up my Inventory for the Christmas season. 👌
Bad news though, my supplier is discontinuing a bunch of colors, including Neon Green, Neon Orange, Camo, and most of the 5/16" & 3/8" colors. Which is a bummer!
So if you are needing those colors, or Neckropes, Working Lines, etc. Let me know in the next 2 days.
Thank you!

"My reins are broken, and I got them from you..."
This is a message I'll get once or twice a year, and it's always the Lace for the Water Loops that got busted. Water Loops are about as standard as it gets for Reins for western riding. Every maker, feedstore, and leather company makes or sells Reins with Water Loops. Yet, people still don't necessarily understand how they are supposed to work.
So my next question is...what happened exactly?
Oftentimes, the reins get stepped on and break, which is a good thing! The Laces are supposed to break to protect the horse's mouth, I personally know horses that have cut tongues from stepping on reins, even with Laces. If this happens (and you are polite), I'm usually happy to send a few replacement Laces, or you can get them online or at the feedstore.
The rest of the time, however, Laces get broke from using Reins incorrectly, such as tying a horse by the bridle. You should NEVER tie a horse by the bridle! I feel this should be common sense, but I see people doing this all the time. But again, if you are nice to me, I'll send a few replacement Laces.
Finally, the real reason I ask is from one incident from 3 or 4 years ago.... I had a customer message me in outrage, telling me that my products are dangerous and caused her to get seriously injured in a horse wreck.
So I asked what happened.
She preceded to tell me that she got a new rescue horse...
With a known bolting problem...
And decided to take a trail ride...
In an S-hack...
And just happened to use Reins that I made...
So when the horse bolted (🤦‍♀️), she pulled on him so hard that she actually broke those Laces.
This is where I'd like to point out that in 15+ years of showing and training in Split Reins, I have broken one (1) Lace. And that was a horse getting away and stepping on the Rein.
Needless to say, I'm still shook. 🤯🤯🤯
And while I do stand by my products, I am not responsible for incorrectly using gear or a series of really questionable decisions.
If you are not sure about a product, please ask me!

New color!
Ice Blue is a new color available in 9/16" (Leads, Mecates) and STIFF 1/4" (Halters). It's a more pale, almost silvery, blue than the pictures are showing. Very unique!
Also shown is the Burnt Orange.

I haven't made any sheep halters in years, but it was nice to get back to it! I did some experimenting with the nosebands. This was for a 4-H related fundraiser.

This pretty girl was an OTTB I met in California. She was very sweet and hung out in the barn with us for 2 hours while waiting on the farrier. Here is she is actually wearing Ginger's halter and lead, in the Sandy Brown color.

Best photos ever! 🙌 🙌
This is Penny. She has been featured before, but this was her first time modeling. I had lots of help getting these, which is I've decided needs to happen more! Molly waved a towel around to get her ears up, and Dawn hid in the doorway of the barn to keep her standing. Worked great!
Usually, I am by myself, trying to get them to ground-tie, hold their head still, perk their ears, and not eat grass while I get photos. 😩

Also, this barn is about 110 years old, built by Penny's family, to house 50+ draft horses for the combines. Pretty neat!
