🎉 Last week, we celebrated one of our favorite humans—Sydney! 🎂🐾

From cake and birthday songs to cuddles from her furry fans, we made sure she felt the love she gives to everyone around her every day. ❤️

Sydney is one of our incredible veterinary assistants, and we're so lucky to have her on the Purrfect Paws and Claws team. She's passionate about education, working hard toward veterinary school, and has a special love for large animals. Her dedication, kindness, and work ethic inspire us all.

And because our patients are family too, one of our sweet surgical patients even stopped by for some birthday kisses. 😘🐶

☀️🐾 SUMMER PET ALERT! 🐾☀️

Florida heat is no joke, and our furry friends feel it too! As temperatures rise, keep these summer safety tips in mind:

🐾 Test the pavement before walks—if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.
💧 Keep fresh water available at all times.
🌡️ Watch for signs of overheating, including excessive panting, drooling, weakness, or lethargy.
🚶 Plan walks during the cooler morning or evening hours.
🏖️ Make sure your pets have access to shade and cool places to rest.

🎉🐾 One year already?! 🐾🎉

This week, our Purrfect Paws and Claws family had a small in-house celebration filled with good food, cake, laughter, and appreciation as we celebrate ONE amazing year since opening our doors to this community. ❤️

We are so grateful for the trust, support, and love you’ve shown us throughout this first year, and we truly couldn’t have done it without our incredible clients, patients, and team. 🐶🐱

And this is only the beginning… we can’t wait to celebrate our formal 1-year anniversary since the ribbon cutting this August! ✨

Meet Bentley — the king of the toothy grin! 😁🐶

Bentley came to see us at Purrfect Paws and Claws for allergy care, but judging by that giant smile, we’d say he still had a pretty great day! Between posing with our wonderful receptionist Mikayla and showing off his signature cheesy grin in his close-up photo, Bentley completely stole our hearts. ❤️

As we head into spring season, allergies are becoming more common in our furry friends. Some common signs of allergies in dogs include:
🐾 Excessive itching or scratching
🐾 Licking or chewing paws
🐾 Red or irritated skin
🐾 Ear infections or head shaking
🐾 Sneezing or watery eyes

👀 Ever wondered what’s hiding in your pet’s ears?
Take a look at this video—those tiny moving specks are ear mites under the microscope! 😳

Ear mites are microscopic parasites that live in the ear canal and are **highly contagious**—they can affect dogs, cats, and even spread between pets in the same household.

🐾 Common signs to watch for:
• Excessive scratching or head shaking
• Dark, crumbly debris (like coffee grounds)
• Redness or irritation in the ears
• Strong odor

The good news? We can treat this right here in our office, and relief is usually quick once treatment begins! 🙌

🐾 Rabies Alert in Lake County – What Pet Owners Need to Know 🐾🦠
A rabies alert has been issued in Lake County, and it’s important to take extra precautions to keep your pets and family safe.

⚠️ What is rabies?
Rabies is a fatal viral disease that affects the nervous system of mammals — including pets and humans. It is most commonly spread through bites or contact with saliva from an infected animal.
🚨 Watch for symptoms in animals:
Unusual aggression or behavior changes
Excessive drooling or foaming at the mouth
Difficulty walking or paralysis
Disorientation or acting “off”
No fear of humans (especially in wild animals)

👀 If your pet or you come into contact with a suspected rabid animal:

Do NOT approach or handle the animal
Wash any bites or scratches immediately with soap and water
Seek medical attention right away
Contact local authorities

📞 Report concerns to the Florida Department of Health
👉 Call your local health department or visit: www.floridahealth.gov

💡 Prevention is key: Keeping your pet up to date on rabies vaccines is the best protection.
