After seeing a post recently, I have to post about a topic.....
The post was about a chihuaha puppy with a grade 2 heart murmur. This puppy was obtained from a "backyard breeder."
This term is derrogatory in nature but somewhat true. It can, however, mean different things to different circles. In some circles, I would be considered a "backyard breeder."
My bloodline originating from Trip, Khali & Enola, has been researched and verified across the board going back 2 generations. My females have all been dual registered AKC/CKC. My males originating from Trip are all CKC.
Some people say, "Well, you have not genetically tested them to predispositional diseases."
That is true....but I haven't tested myself to see if I will have a predispositional death from heart disease......
This argument gets brought into the realm of Eugenics.... That caused WW2. I will not be drawn into that debate. I will not breed a dog with obvious signs or continue to breed after having genetic issues arise. My dogs are all vet checked and given a clean bill of health.
If that makes me a "backyard breeder" so be it....
I have taken care to select my bloodline, done my due dillegence with keeping contact with owners, and EXTENSIVELY checked behaviors and backgrounds.... that is not to say none of my owners will experience issues but.....there is an educated and thought out selection process.
I breed dogs for the family and connection while keeping health in mind. I am proud of my dogs, my pups, and all they represent....
