A good take on trainers having trainers! Justin and I each have a trainer that we ride with. And we are so blessed to have so many others in our corner who are just a phone call away! We don’t have all of the answers, but working with others who have been in the industry longer than us continually provides opportunities for growth, learning and problem solving. Continual development is key to setting the horse up for success!
Your trainer having a trainer is not a sign that they aren't good enough. It is not a sign that they don't know what they are doing.
I would be far more concerned about a trainer who thinks they've learned everything there is to learn. Horses are too complicated for that.
There is always another discipline to learn from. Another horse that teaches you something you didn't know. Another rider who sees something differently. Another trainer who has a skill you haven't developed yet.
Having someone you trust enough to say, "Hey, I don't know. Help me," isn't weakness.
It's humility.
And it's how you get better.
I don't want to be the trainer who thinks she has all the answers. I want to be the trainer who knows where to go when she doesn't.
Because the second you decide you know everything, you've probably stopped learning.
And in this industry, the trainers who keep learning are the ones I want working with my horses.
