๐จ DESERT WHISKERS RESCUE NEEDS EMERGENCY HELP ๐จ
Desert Whiskers Rescue got a call on June 4th from a person desperately needing help with cats and an overwhelming hoarding situation that had spiraled out of control. We immediately knew this situation was extremely urgent.
When we entered the home, temperatures inside were reaching nearly 125 DEGREES. Combined with overwhelming ammonia levels from urine and f***s, the conditions were dangerous for both the cats and the people trying to help.
Over the last several days, Desert Whiskers Rescue has been assisting with a heartbreaking and overwhelming hoarding situation involving a large number of cats living in extremely unsafe conditions.
The homeowner has been struggling with illness and became overwhelmed over time, and unfortunately the situation spiraled beyond control. This is not being shared to shame anyone, but to show how quickly situations can become unmanageable when someone is struggling alone.

ON SUNDAY, JUNE 7TH, NATHALIE WITH MY FERAL BABIES, STEVEN MICHAEL ZIEMBA, JOE HAMROCK, ROBERT MONTGOMERY, AND CAROLE HELFAND-SANDY VISITED THE HOME AND IMMEDIATELY BEGAN REMOVING CATS FROM THE DANGEROUS CONDITIONS.
NINETEEN CATS WERE SAFELY REMOVED THAT DAY and transported to HEAVEN CAN WAIT ANIMAL SOCIETY for spay and neuter services. Since then, five additional cats have been trapped and brought to safety.
๐พ DESERT WHISKERS RESCUE HAS TAKEN IN 9 OF THE 24 CATS REMOVED FROM THIS HOARDING SITUATION. While we are incredibly thankful for everyone helping, we are still urgently trying to secure placement and help for approximately 5โ10 MORE CATS that still need rescue, fostering, or placement assistance.

By Sunday evening, thanks to an unbelievable team effort from volunteers, fosters, and rescue partners, we had approximately 90% OF THE CATS SAFELY REMOVED from the property. Every single hour people spent inside that home made a difference and helped save lives.
Over the last several days, volunteers spent countless hours removing trash, f***s, urine-soaked belongings, and debris just to make parts of the home accessible. Multiple rooms have now been cleared, but there is still a very long road ahead before the house is safe again.
We are sharing this to raise awareness. Situations like this usually do not happen overnight. They slowly build until they become impossible for one person to manage alone. This is why spay and neuter is so important, and why asking for help early matters.

โข Foster homes willing to temporarily hold 1โ2 cats
โข Rescue partners with open space
โข Donations of litter, food, cleaning supplies, gloves, masks, and carriers
โข Monetary donations to help cover medical care and supplies
โข Volunteers willing to assist with continued cleanup efforts
These cats cannot safely return to the home due to the conditions they were living in, and every foster or rescue placement literally saves lives and allows us to continue removing more cats to safety.
Several rescues have already stepped up in a huge way, and we are beyond grateful for every single person helping. But we are reaching a critical point where we need more placement options immediately.
