👂🐾 LET’S TALK EAR HAIR & EAR HEALTH!
For many dogs—especially Doodles, Poodles, and other breeds with lots of hair growing inside the ear canal—ear maintenance can be an important part of their grooming routine.
When there is excessive ear hair, it can hold onto moisture, wax, dirt, and debris and reduce airflow inside the ear. That warm, moist environment can contribute to irritation and may increase the risk of ear problems.
That’s where ear plucking, when appropriate for the individual dog, can help. ✂️🐶
Ear plucking is a routine grooming technique where excess hair is gently removed from inside the ear canal. It does not require surgery or an incision, and our groomers only remove hair when it’s appropriate and tolerated by the dog.
Regular ear maintenance can help:
🐾 Improve airflow
🐾 Reduce buildup of wax and debris
🐾 Make ears easier to keep clean
🐾 Help pet parents notice redness, odor, or discharge sooner
🐾 Potentially prevent some problems from becoming an expensive veterinary visit
Not every dog needs their ears plucked, and removing too much hair can cause irritation, so it should be done based on the dog’s coat, ears, and individual needs.
If we notice redness, excessive discharge, strong odor, swelling, or signs of discomfort during grooming, we’ll always recommend having your veterinarian take a look. ❤️
