There is something quietly remarkable about the way dogs extend themselves to animals who have no interest in reciprocating. No resentment. No withdrawal. Just the same open, unhurried offer every morning, every room, every pass in the hallway.

After months of summer heat, many dogs come alive when the cooler fall weather arrives. Those early morning walks feel better, play sessions last longer, and some dogs suddenly seem eager to explore every scent, trail, and corner of the neighborhood.

The dog who seemed lazy in July may be racing around the yard in October.

It's not a different dog.

It's the same dog feeling more comfortable, more energized, and more like themselves.

You might not be imagining it.

As the days get shorter and temperatures begin to change, your dog's body responds to seasonal shifts too. Increased melatonin production can influence metabolism, and some dogs naturally develop a slightly bigger appetite during the fall months.

It's one of the many ways dogs adapt to the changing seasons long before we notice the difference ourselves.

Of course, sudden or excessive changes in appetite should always be discussed with your veterinarian. But a modest increase in hunger during cooler months can be completely normal.

So if your pup seems a little extra interested in snack time lately, they may just be following their instincts. 🐾
