📢Important info on Diya, the stray beauty you've been seeing at the Split Rock Rest Area in Jeffrey City.
🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE ON DIYA: The Split Rock Rest Area Dog in Jeffrey City 🚨As many of you know, our team has been working to safely bring in the sweet dog at the Jeffrey City rest area, whom we have named Diya.
We did have an individual get in touch with us and let us know where she came from and how she ended up at the rest area. Diya is only 10 months old and comes from a very rough past. Before ending up at Jeffrey City, she spent her entire life locked in a kennel with almost no human contact. Because of this trauma, she is deeply terrified of kennels, crates, or traditional traps, and she is incredibly leery of trusting humans.
Members of our team travel up to see her every single day—often multiple times a day—to ensure she is safe and fed. One of our dedicated members has worked immensely hard to gain her trust and has made wonderful progress, but Diya is still not ready to be touched.
Gaining the trust of a deeply traumatized dog takes time. If we try to forcefully catch her and miss, she will flee. We could lose her forever, and she cannot survive the Wyoming winter on her own.
We are profoundly grateful to every single person who has stopped out of the kindness of their hearts to feed her or try to help. However, well-meaning actions are accidentally creating major setbacks:
• Feeding her in different places makes it incredibly difficult for us to establish the consistent, predictable feeding routine she needs to feel safe.
• Attempting to forcefully catch or corner her shatters the fragile trust we are building and pushes her further into survival mode.
HOW YOU CAN TRULY HELP DIYA RIGHT NOW:
🐾 DO NOT try to forcefully catch, corner, or chase her.
🐾 DO NOT yell at or call out to her. If you see her, please ignore her and give her space.
🐾 DO NOT feed her human food or ANY meat with bones. Chicken bones can splinter and be fatal to her.
🐾 ONLY place dog food in the specific bowls we have laid out.
Please trust that we are doing everything humanly possible to bring Diya in safely. We have reached out to multiple organizations, are coordinating closely with local authorities, and are actively working under the guidance of professional trappers.
We are trying one more attempt at trapping her but if that does not work we have a plan to catch her that is going to require several volunteers help and will be reaching out to you all for help.
We will not give up on Diya. Our ultimate goal is to bring her safely into our sanctuary, where we can show her what love, patience, and safety feel like. She is our absolute priority. We just ask for your patience, your understanding, and your cooperation so we don't compromise her rescue.
