How did I teach this puppy to go from running away from the vacuum to laying there while I pass it right next to her? Patience, positive reinforcement and the freedom to interact or not.

Allowing Sunny to go near or stay away from the vacuum over the last 1.5 weeks has allowed her to come to the conclusion it’s no big deal.

She wasn’t forced to be near it and she wasn’t coerced into interacting with it. I just let her do what she wanted while I went about my business and rewarded her for bravery when she did get curious enough to check it out.

Letting dogs decide when and what they interact with, and reinforcing bravery, working with them at a distance, and slowly giving them comfort around scary things pays off 🥰
