We had a great opening day yesterday and we promise we will post pictures at some point. But for now we want to highlight these two boys. We talk and train and prepare for if things go bad. Yesterday during the evening hunt both Buck and Call were bit by a Cottonmouth while going for retrieves, same snake, both dogs. Buck was bit on his back right paw and Call on his face which is very scary for a dog his size. We immediately rushed to Valdosta Veterinary Associates for emergency treatment. Both boys are receiving anti venom at the moment and we have been told they are responding well and Calls swelling has gone down significantly. We also want to highlight the Rattle snake bite vaccine that both boys have, on duty vet said thats probably the main reason Call lived because it helps buy extra time to get to the vet. From time of bite to the time we got him there was right at an hour. A snake bite to the face on a dog his size usually causes respiratory distress within 30 minutes. We are very thankful to all of our friends who were there with us last night and a special thank you to Billy and Cameron Jellison for helping us flush the snake out so we could identify it and get a revenge kill. Thank you Madison Sparks for helping us make phone calls to vets to make sure someone had anti venom. Kodi Bishop and Evan Gravitt thank you guys for handling everything when we left in a hurry then sitting with us at the vet. Both of these boys were still trying to work while we were trying to stabilize them, I couldn't be prouder of their grit and determination and can't wait to get them home and back in shape.
