BABY'S STORY
The community who knows us best knows we don't always take the "easy cases".
That is why when Baby was found here in Lake City, Florida they immediately reached out to us. Without a second thought. They wanted Baby to have a chance to live her best possible life.
Baby was/is a sweet, spunky and otherwise healthy kitten. With an injury that could have meant life or death depending on where she wound up.
Many will pass on these tougher medical cases. Or worse make recommendations that would be unfair to a young baby just starting out.
We realize sometimes those decisions aren't made because she didn't deserve the chance but rather with finances in mind.
Once you read her story you will see why.
We didn't say no to helping Baby. Despite the financial concerns we said yes.
We are not a shelter facility and are totally no kill. Any animal we take in gets treatment regardless of cost. Exhausting every option is part of that. Being diagnosed terminally ill by veterinarians where suffering is involved is our obvious exception.
Baby began her journey with us at a wonderful foster home.
Baby was assessed by multiple vets who all diagnosed her the same.
While we had hoped saving her front leg was possible it wasn't in the cards for Baby.
Diagnosis was all the same. A brachial plexus avulsion. At her young age she was already beginning to atrophy and while still active her situation would not improve. It would only get worse
Baby graduated to an amazing medical foster who works in the human medical field.
We began to swallow hard and worry once we started receiving estimates of cost for all Baby needed at the vet.
Enter one of our amazing vet partners who came thru for Baby and discounted surgery for her from their heart.
X-Rays $120
Surgery day came. Baby was spayed, had her injured leg amputated, received all her vaccines, microchip and diagnostic testing.
$612.
For a small rescue that will eventually receive a $100 adoption fee that math is a challenge.
Baby's new life is priceless so we aren't complaining. Just giving you a real world financial illustration.
What was never a challenge is believing Baby was worth it. This little tripawd kitty is winning!
Baby has made a remarkable recovery. She is resilient, happy and thriving. Her sutures were removed yesterday and the surgery site is perfect.
Baby is back with her super medical foster and has a place to stay until her furever family comes along.
About Baby: Baby lives peacefully with other cats but sometimes can get spooked or over stimulated. Once cautious due to her injury she is busy exploring the world around her. Still adjusting to living her life without that bad leg.
Just months old she still needs some security and a special family who will nurture Baby's best side.
Baby has a pop up playpen at her foster home which is her den or retreat. Her "safe haven" when she gets over stimulated or has just had enough and wants to rest and be quiet.
We do not do adoptions on social media inquiries but we are seeking a purrfect fit family for Baby. If you want to learn more please reach out to us.
