Best news in a bad situation...I decided last minute to try to foster Debs litter to Sky.. I was worried because they are older by a week, Sky has 4 and I wasn't sure how she would feel about the sudden increase in 'children' but y'all this doe is AMAZING.. she accepted them and within the hour was nursing and grooming them like they had been hers from day one.. thank you Lord!!

Sometimes Dealing with Animals is truly heartbreaking.. I can't remember when I have been this Disappointed, Angry, Sad and hurt all at once, at least toward an animal!
Deb is a Red New Zealand doe I bred and Raised.. literally.. her mother had no milk, so I ended up bottle feeding the litter. Deb (Debut) had such nice color and Type I decided to keep her..
I had intended to show her but never got to show anyone last Spring.
So she became a brood doe because I THOUGHT she was being super hormonal.. turns out she's just a nasty tempered doe. First 3 times I bred her she missed.. I decided to give her one more chance and she had a large litter of 13! Only 8 of the 13 survived but despite her still being exceptionally cage territorial, She was taking good care of her kits... that is UNTIL they got out of the nestbox and started moving around HER cage.
She has progressively gotten nastier and nastier with them until this afternoon when I was feeding she attacked one of her little bucks and I thought she had broken his leg. Thankfully after he calmed down (it broke my HEART hearing him screaming and trembling even after I grabbed him out and held him close) he started putting weight on the leg and I do not feel a fracture.
She seems to only be bad when I'm feeding.. I think she's just resource guarding.. so I am going to TRY tomorrow to remove her and feed her in a transport cage and feed the babies in their cage. Once they have eaten, I will put her back and watch. If she even shows the SLIGHTEST indication that she's going after them.. she's DONE. They are only 4 weeks old and I really would like to leave them with her at least another week but not if the risk from HER outweighs the risk of early weaning. I'm fairly certain she isn't allowing them to nurse anymore anyway.
It truly hurts my heart to have to cull a rabbit I raised on a bottle.. but I will not allow her to get away with more than I would any other .. I will also not pass her off to be a problem for someone else.. so she is definitely being culled.. it's only a matter of if it's now or later .

Due to some health issues, I have decided to scale my rabbit herd back. I decided to just focus on my Whites, Reds and Brokens.
I will have several very proven Brood does and Bucks available. All are pedigreed, some have shown well. All have produced large very healthy litters for me. No issues with any of them kindling or mothering their Litters..
Tentatively I will have 2 Black does, a Blue Doe, and Blue, Broken Blue, and Broken Black bucks. If any are interested please message for further information and pictures.
The Blue doe is on brood and could potentially go with her litter.

Saying prayers for this little smudge this evening.. found her behind the nestbox (a lot of that this time) she had clearly missed several feedings and looked quite dehydrated.. got some fluids into her, then after a rest, I syringe fed her. She ate very well for me, then after peeing all over me, settled in for a good rest. If I can keep her alive, she will be inside for a while and I will be her mom..
So hope she bounces back

Whoohooo! We have babies galore! I felt really confident about these girls being pregnant and they didn't disappoint..
Dream (Broken Black) x Storm (Black) was an experimental pairing.. they are mother and Son. I really hope to see some improvement. Unfortunately we only had 3 and surprisingly all 3 are solid Black.
Crystal (Black) x Riddle (Broken Black) had 9, and what a fantastic surprise we have Broken Black, Broken Blue, Black, Blue and White in this litter. I had no idea she carried dilute.
Lastly my lovely Mimzy (Broken Black) x Elvis (Blue) had 7, they also had a beautiful colorful litter of Broken Blue, Broken Black, Black and Blue.
As we wrap up breeding until Fall.. I have 4 does left.. I have Debut (Red) x CASH (Red) along with Rosie (Meat Brood Broken Chestnut) x Hardy (Broken Blue) that are both due the end of the month, then I have Soci and Promise who will be bred this weekend.
Soci (White) x Gambler (White)
Promise (Broken Blue) x Elvis (Blue)
These will be my final litters until November or December once temps cool back down.
I am so thankful for the beautiful kits this year, the education I have received and Still am receiving on Color Genetics (Steel).
I am thankful to the Breeders who have helped me get my herd started.. I am especially thankful to Angela for her mentorship/friendship. I still find myself just staring at Soci (HKS3- BYL's High Society) and wondering how I deserve such an amazing animal. I am RIDICULOUSLY excited to see her first litter!
Will keep you all posted on how these babies grow.. it's been a baby Boom!
We currently have..
CRYSTAL 9 (Newborn)
MIMZY 7 (Newborn)
DREAM 3 (1 Day)
KAHUNA 6 (1 Week)
VALENTINE 8 (1 Week)
RAMONA 10 (1 Week)
SKY 8 (4 Weeks)
ROSIE 2 (4 Weeks)
That's 53 little babies.
I still have a few left from my Christmas litters that I will be going through again to determine who goes on to show and who will go to the Freezer..
Lots to do! More to come.

Sometimes Mama's just need a little help.. Valentines babies are 2 days old, and I check nest boxes daily, especially in the beginning. I pull all the kits out one by one, make sure they are well fed and warm. Val has 8, and she is an excellent mother, always pulls lots of hair, builds a great nest and is super attentive.. today when checking I found 2 of her kits literally buried in the bottom of the nest seemingly tangled in the over abundance of fur. When I pulled them free they were quite thin and wrinkled telling me they had not fed in a while. Thankfully Valentine is a Super tolerant doe and was VERY good while I got her out and held her and the 2 babies in my lap to allow them to feed.. she just sat perfectly still enjoying her ear rubs while I let the babies eat all they wanted.. both were well fed with rounded bellies when I returned the 3 of them to her cage. Hopefully it was a simple case of them getting pushed to the bottom of the nest and missing a feeding or two. I removed a good deal of the hair (saved it for another time) and will be checking them more often to make sure they can catch up to their rolly poly siblings..

If you are going to ask me to hold Rabbits for you, and change your mind... have the decency to let me know. I definitely understand that things happen, plans change.. but please do not make me revisit my policy on NOT asking for deposits. My time is valuable just like yours and if I tell you I will hold rabbits for you that very likely means that I am turning away other potential buyers.
Common courtesy isn't so common anymore.

WE HAVE BABIES!! Not much excites me more than finding nestboxes full of freshly pulled fur...
Litters currently in boxes....
SKY (Blue) x ELVIS (Blue), born 2/28 they have 8, 5 Blue, 1 White and 2 Black (yes from a Blue yo Blue pairing)
VALENTINE (Blue) x ELVIS (Blue), born 3/22 they have , 6 Blue and 2 White
KAHUNA (White) x GAMBLER (White), born 3/23 they have 6 super chunky babies all White
And lastly
RAMONA (Black) x RIDDLE (Broken Black), born 3/23 they have 10!! They have 7 Solid Black and 3 Broken Black.. I will be fostering Ramonas largest 2 to Kahuna to ease the load on Ramona. I will be fostering the 2 biggest so theh can fairly compete with Kahuna's chunky monkies.
That will give each doe 8.
Next week we have 3 more due.
MIMZY (Broken Black) x ELVIS (Blue) they had beautiful babies last pairing, Blue, Broken Blue, Black and Broken Black...so lets try that again!
DREAM (Broken Black) x STORM (Black)
And
CRYSTAL (Black) x RIDDLE (Broken Black)
I had hoped to get Soci Registered/Granded before I bred her.. buy I am running out of time. I hope to get her registered at the Pendleton Show next month. Then she, along with Promise and Debut who both missed will bred for May babies then we are done until October..
