Calling everyone attending the AVMA Convention in Anaheim (July 10–14): We need your help. The AVMA doesn't want this animal cruelty (declawing) banned.

If you're attending the American Veterinary Medical Association Convention, please ask an AVMA leader this question: "Why won't the AVMA completely condemn cat declawing?"

Millions of cat lovers believe declawing is an outdated and inhumane procedure, yet the AVMA still refuses to completely condemn it or support legislation to end it.

Many veterinary professionals attending this convention may not know that, as recently as October 2025, the AVMA President-Elect's veterinary clinic in OH was advertising cat declawing on its website. The advertisement was removed only after City the Kitty published this investigative report exposing it. https://citythekitty.org/avmas-credibility-in-crisis-leaders-with-financial-ties-to-declawing-shape-policy-prompting-calls-to-rename-it-the-american-veterinary-money-association/

If you ask an AVMA leader about this issue—or hear discussions about declawing during the convention—we'd love to hear from you.

We'll keep your identity completely confidential.

Please email us at [email protected] and let us know what you learned. Even a brief summary can help us better understand the AVMA's position and continue advocating for cats.

Together, we can encourage greater transparency and accountability on one of the most important feline welfare issues in veterinary medicine.

Please sign our petition to the AVMA. https://www.change.org/p/avma-completely-condemn-declawing-or-rebrand-name-to-american-veterinary-money-association

You can also politely contact the AVMA and ask them to put the welfare of cats ahead of preserving declawing. [email protected]

Cats were declawed at an unknown vet clinic.

Fantastic!

Governor Lujan Grisham has officially signed Senate Bill 38 into law, marking a permanent win for animals in New Mexico. This legislation ensures a reliable flow of $1.5 million annually for low-cost spay and neuter services, preventing the suffering of untold numbers of domestic dogs and cats across the state.

Good!

Denver has banned the sale of cats, dogs, and rabbits in pet stores, redirecting consumers toward shelters and rescue organizations rather than retail animal sales.

Pet stores are still permitted to host adoption events in partnership with rescue groups, maintaining a presence in the market while shifting away from direct commercial sales of animals.

The legislation targets the supply chain connecting large-scale commercial breeding operations to retail stores, a pipeline that animal welfare groups have documented for years as a source of poorly bred, unhealthy animals sold to families who are often unaware of their origins.

Denver joins several other Colorado cities and a growing number of municipalities nationwide that have passed similar ordinances, adding to pressure on state legislatures to address the issue more broadly.
