Marley is one of those dogs who doesn’t trust easily.

Our first few hikes were slow. He kept his distance, wasn’t sure about me, and took his time warming up. And that’s okay. Some dogs just need a little more patience.

Over the course of 5 hikes he slowly warmed up to me and started to trust me more.

Last week we made it up to Nederland together, and seeing him comfortable, confident, and actually enjoying the trail… that’s the best part of this job.

It’s not just about the hike! It’s about building trust along the way. ❤️❤️❤️

I’ve been spending time at puppy camp lately, and it’s been really cool to see how much goes into socialization, reading dog behavior, recall and building confidence. TBH, it’s made me better at what I do.

If you’ve got a younger dog (or honestly any dog that seems like walks aren’t quite cutting it), this is usually the stage where hikes start making a difference.

I’ve got a few spots open for hikes now, and I’m always happy to chat and see if it’s a good fit for your pup. 🙂

Luna has the best smile on the trail! She thinks the camera is a toy, so it was easy to get some happy shots of her living her best life. Big energy at home, but so chill on the trails. And from what I hear, big chill at home right after the hikes. ❤️❤️❤️

This is a personal post I want to share with the Ruff Terrain family.

We had to say goodbye to our dog Tavvi last month. She and her litter were found with parvo in a dumpster in Georgia. Thanks to she was saved from this deadly disease and able to find her furever home with us.

Before I started Ruff Terrain, she was my hiking buddy of 12 years. She loved sprinting in the mountains, scouting the trail ahead, and sniffing for animal tracks.

We miss her so much. But we’re grateful for the 14 years we had with her. I know she’s climbing rocks and summiting peaks over the rainbow bridge ❤️

This winter warmth is making it harder for our thicker furred friends from getting the most of their hikes. So we’ve started taking our pups higher up into the mountains where it’s 20 degrees cooler than Lafayette and Louisville. If you got a dog that would enjoy some mountain fresh air, book a meet and greet with us!

I first met Milo at puppy camp! This sweet little boy pup has grown so much in 6 months! Milo’s first hike with Ruff Terrain was a blast. He got to dig his nose in the snow and did a little work on his leash skills.
