Foster to adopt home wanted!
Hoss has seen all the dogs coming and going in the 2 years since we have taken him in and he would like everyone to know that he considers himself a doodle, especially if that may help to get him adopted.
When he was returned to us recently from his foster to adopt home, he was heartbroken. He couldn't understand what he may have done to end up back with his original foster. He knows he isn't as showy or animated guy as some of the other dogs and he is definitely a lady's man, more so than a man's dog but he really has tried so hard to find his forever family. When did a good boy get to be not good enough? Event after event, Hoss has shown up and shined, his star just isn't as bright as some of the other dogs, though.
We cannot say enough good things about Hoss, or Hudson as his foster calls him. He comes to most of our events, is a bit shy but calm and good natured, he doesn't jump up on people, isn't barky or growly and just sports his soft, golden coat inconspicuously amongst the other more flashy, more eager dogs. Hoss isn't a jet setter, he doesn't beg for attention and fawning over and he isn't a puppy anymore... he is just plain a Good Boy.
Hoss came to us in November of 2024 after being at another rescue for several months and he has been in the same loving, foster home for most of that time. According to his DNA test, he is a blend of Pit Bull Terrier, Australian Shepherd, German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever and Bulldog but this boy doesn't realize what being all those working dog mixes means and he considers himself a 2.5 year old, 60 # lapdog and epitome of sweetness, love and compassion. In order to be the goodest boy, he has learned to sit, not jump up, walk on a leash, not potty in the house, overnight in a crate and play nice with is foster doodle brother Sam as well as many other life lessons about what it is to have a family, even if temporary. He has a foster mom and grandchild playgroup he is besties with, but still longs for the companionship of a family to call his own. He has seen many come and go to new homes since he arrived in NY and he is beginning to wonder why no one has come for him... and so are we.
Hoss is crate trained, and will go in readily when you say "kennel". He even has been taught to ring a bell when he needs to go outside to potty, just in case you don't notice his hints. He knows a few commands like "sit" and "down", too. I has a large fenced yard at home now, and when called or whistled to he will come. The yard provides extra security for him so he doesn't get too scared and gives him room to run. Sometimes he tries to bolt if he hears unfamiliar noises, or sees animals (like rabbits and chipmunks) that he'd like to play with so he really does need a fenced yard at home to keep him secure and safe.
Hoss would really love to have a dog friend in his new home to show him the way and help him become familiar with a new schedule. He has always gotten along very well with new dogs and really does seek out their companionship. He doesn't know anything about cats, however, and may be inclined to chase them.
Maybe you could give him a chance to be a new member of your family if he promises to be a good boy? He's been waiting for a while now...
A special reduced adoption donation of $250 is being asked to cover a portion of his veterinary and care fees. He has been examined, vaccinated, treated for intestinal and external parasites and neutered.
Due to his size and age, adoption requirements are:
-⭐️Living within 80 miles of Adams, NY.
-⭐️Hoss it is definitely a lady's man so a female home would be preferred, but if there was a male presence patient enough and willing to work with him, we know he would come around
-⭐️Having previous/current pets in annually at a local veterinary office and up to date on vaccines as well as spay/neutered.
-⭐️A home with another likesized dog is strongly recommended since he seeks comfort and security from his current foster brother, but he has not been cat tested
-⭐️Like all dogs, he will need a little patience and consistency at home so he can be the best boy he can be
-⭐️Homes with dog experienced children over 10 years old should be ok since he is a very sweet and gentle boy, but a bit shy
-⭐️Willing to have current dogs/family members come to a meet and greet to meet the pet and be sure he is an acceptable match.
-⭐️Having a secure, fenced yard is recommended since Hoss does scare easily and will try to flee if he gets spooked
-⭐️Having time available to care for, socialize and start training of a new pet.
