We will be doing vaccine/microchip clinic on Thursday, Aug 27, from 11-1. No appointment necessary.

For dogs - distemper-parvo, bordatella, and rabies offered. Each vaccine is $15.

For cats - FVRCP and rabies offered. Each vaccine is $15.

Microchips are $20, and we register it for you.

Sorry for the late notice...the shelter is closed Wednesday-Friday, August 12-14, to adoptions and surrenders. We are still doing the spay-neuter surgery (if you have an appointment) on Thursday, Aug 13, and the vaccine clinic from 11-1.

🐾 NOW HIRING – Dog Kennel Care Assistant 🐾

The Union County Humane Society is looking for a dependable, hardworking Dog Kennel Care Assistant to join our team. We are currently accepting applications for part-time or full-time positions.

This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about animal welfare and understands that excellent shelter care requires compassion, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic. This position involves cleaning kennels, lifting, and caring for dogs in all stages of health and behavior. It is rewarding work, but it is not simply spending time petting puppies.

Responsibilities include:
🐶 Feeding and monitoring dogs daily
🧹 Cleaning and disinfecting dog intake, quarantine, indoor kennels, and outdoor kennel areas
🚶 Walking and exercising dogs safely
🦴 Providing enrichment activities to reduce stress and improve quality of life
💊 Observing dogs for changes in health or behavior and reporting concerns promptly
📝 Assisting with routine record keeping and following established shelter protocols

Requirements:
• Must be reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently
• Must be able to consistently follow written cleaning protocols
• Comfortable working with dogs of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments
• Able to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, bending, standing, and working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Must be available to work some weekends and holidays
• Must be at least 21 years old

Compensation is based on experience. Applicants with animal-related certifications or licenses—such as veterinary assistant or technician, euthanasia technician, animal control, or other relevant credentials—are encouraged to apply. Additional qualifications will be considered when determining compensation.

Join Our Team – Part-Time Cat Care Attendant

The Union County Humane Society is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and detail-oriented Part-Time Cat Care Attendant to help provide exceptional care for the cats and kittens in our shelter.

This position is ideal for someone interested in animal welfare, veterinary medicine, or shelter operations who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where every day makes a difference.

Position Details
🕗 Hours: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM
📅 Schedule: Includes weekends and some holidays
💲 Pay: $12.00–$15.00 per hour, based on experience

Primary Responsibilities

• Daily cleaning and sanitation of the Kitten Room, Cat Cottage, and Cat Intake areas while maintaining strict disease prevention protocols.
• Monitor the health and behavior of cats and kittens, recognizing and reporting changes in condition.
• Assist with the administration and accurate documentation of medications, vaccinations, parasite prevention, and other routine medical treatments under established shelter protocols.
• Maintain detailed medical and treatment records to ensure continuity of care.
• Assist with animal handling during veterinary examinations, intake evaluations, and routine health procedures.
• Provide daily feeding, enrichment, and compassionate care to cats and kittens of all ages.
• Assist with shelter housekeeping, including laundry, dishes, and maintaining a clean, organized work environment.

Qualifications

We are looking for an individual who:
• Has excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Is comfortable handling cats and kittens of varying ages, temperaments, and medical conditions.
• Can accurately follow written medical protocols and maintain complete treatment records.
• Is dependable, punctual, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Can lift up to 40 pounds and perform the physical duties associated with animal care, including standing, bending, lifting, and cleaning.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Previous experience in an animal shelter, veterinary clinic, animal rescue, kennel, or other animal care setting is preferred, but we are willing to train the right individual who demonstrates a strong work ethic, compassion, and a commitment to animal welfare.
