This happens in my house except it's barking when they hear me in the house! That's because all but 1 of our dogs are pointy eared.

It doesn't really matter why - it's not always something that happened. Sometimes dogs just get overstimulated or they're not socialized with people and other dogs, or it's genetic. They often can overcome it with proper training. If not, with proper management they can learn to handle it without acting out.
