We want to clear up the confusion surrounding Maggie’s rescue and veterinary care.
First, Lone Star Ditch Dog Rescue was not the group that initially secured Maggie. We only reached out and offered to help after she was caught. Any concerns about too many people being present or an unleashed dog running around at the time she was secured should not be directed at our rescue because we were not responsible for that situation.
It is easy to criticize the people who stepped up after the fact, but Maggie had reportedly been loose for nearly a year. If so many people believe they could have handled everything better, why didn’t they secure her themselves? Why tear down the people who did what they could to finally get her off the streets and into safety? The situation may not have looked perfect to everyone, but Maggie is alive, safe, receiving medical care, and sleeping indoors because people chose to help.
These paid invoices show that Maggie was seen by Human-Animal Support Coalition in Temple on October 12. She received her heartworm test, pre-surgical exam, spay, microchip, rabies vaccine, and DAPP booster there.
Maggie has not yet been seen at our regular veterinary clinic. Our previous post never stated that she had already been seen there. We explained that Temple Veterinary Hospital Medical and Surgical Center is where Maggie will receive her heartworm treatment and asked anyone wishing to help to call donations directly into our rescue’s account. We provided the clinic’s phone number so nobody would need to drive out of their way to make a donation.
We use the Human-Animal Support Coalition for preventative and routine care because its affordable services allow us to complete most of a dog’s vetting in one day. When one of our dogs tests positive for heartworms, that dog goes to our regular veterinarian in Temple for treatment and continued medical care.
Maggie could not be added to our regular vet’s system before being seen there, which is why the staff did not yet have a record of her. She will be seen there this week, and any donations made under our rescue’s account can then be applied toward her heartworm treatment.
We have been transparent about where Maggie was seen, what care she received, and where her heartworm treatment will take place. These invoices are being shared to clear up any remaining confusion. Our focus will continue to be Maggie’s recovery, safety, and future.
