Each class is 7 weeks long, except for S.T.A.R. Puppy which is 6 weeks! Class will happen as long as there are two or more dogs in each session! if there is only one dog signed up, I will reach out to the owner to move them to either a different class, offer private lessons instead or put them on a wait list for next session and see if there's more interest then!
S.T.A.R. Puppy
S.T.A.R. Puppy is an official AKC program that stands for Socialization, Training, Activity, and Responsible dog ownership! In this class, we will cover the foundational skills your puppy needs to become a well-mannered, confident member of the family. We will work on basic obedience, engagement, impulse control, appropriate socialization, and responsible ownership. This class also gives you the opportunity to earn the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy title upon successfully completing the evaluation! S.T.A.R. Puppy is also a wonderful foundation for families interested in pursuing therapy work or continuing into more advanced training.
Obedience 1
Obedience 1 is perfect for dogs of all ages who need to work on their basic manners or who have little to no prior group-class experience. We will build a strong foundation through skills such as: Basic obedience commands, Impulse control, Leash walking, Polite greetings, Handler engagement, and Learning to focus around distractions. This class is a great next step after S.T.A.R. Puppy, but it can also be a starting point for older dogs who are new to group training!
Obedience 2
Ready to take your dog's training to the next level? Obedience 2 builds upon the skills learned in S.T.A.R. Puppy and Obedience 1, with an increased focus on duration, reliability, distractions, and fine-tuning your dog's obedience skills. This class is a great stepping stone for anyone interested in therapy work and serves as an excellent preparation class for the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluation. It is also a great option for dogs who have had previous obedience or group-class experience but could use a refresher or some additional practice!
Canine Good Citizen & Beyond - FULL
If you are interested in taking your dog into public settings, visiting nursing homes, pursuing therapy work, or simply taking your dog's manners to the next level, this class is for you! A formal group training class is recommended before enrolling. This can be a class through Shooting Star Pet Services or another qualified training program; proof of previous group-class experience may be requested. During this class, we will work toward the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluation, and dogs who successfully pass the test will have the opportunity to earn their AKC CGC title. But we don't stop there! Depending on the class, we may also work toward: AKC Trick Dog titles, Canine Good Citizen Advanced (CGCA), Canine Good Citizen Urban (CGCU), Advanced real-world manners, and Skills for public access and therapy work This class is designed to help turn a well-trained dog into a reliable, confident, and enjoyable companion in the real world.
Canine Life Skills
Want a dog who is simply easier and more enjoyable to live with? Canine Life Skills focuses on the practical behaviors that make everyday life with your dog easier and less stressful. We aren't going to obsess over having a picture-perfect heel or nitpick every little detail of your dog's obedience. Instead, we will focus on skills that actually matter in day-to-day life, including: Loose-leash walking, Reliable recalls, Door manners, Impulse control, Dog reactivity, Human reactivity, Calm behavior in public, and Everyday household manners. This class is perfect for owners who want a good dog at home and a well-mannered dog in public, without necessarily pursuing formal titles or competition.
Canine Conditioning & Confidence Building
A healthy dog isn't just a well-trained dog, they also need to feel confident and comfortable in their own body. This class focuses on keeping our dogs healthy, active, and mentally engaged while building body awareness, physical coordination, confidence, and stability. We will work on exercises designed to help dogs: Improve body awareness and coordination, Build strength and balance, Develop confidence in new situations, Learn how to safely use their bodies, Improve physical and mental fitness, Build skills that can help reduce injury risk, and Maintain mobility and quality of life as they age. This class is appropriate for dogs at many different stages of life and can be especially valuable as part of a lifelong approach to canine fitness. Our goal isn't simply to make our dogs stronger, it's to help them feel good, stay active, remain confident, and enjoy the best possible quality of life for as long as possible.
