SAII PETS PRO TIP 2:

🐾 Have You Talked to Your Veterinarian About Your Dog’s Unwanted Behavior Yet?

What are you waiting for? 👀

If your pup is showing behavior that concerns you, your veterinarian isn’t just there for vaccines and belly rubs — they’re your first stop for behavioral guidance too.

Before your appointment, come prepared like the responsible (but slightly stressed) pet parent you are 📝🐶

🔎 Step 1: Describe the Behavior Clearly
Be specific:

• What exactly is happening?

• Any facial expressions? (whale eyes, lip licking, hard stare 👀)

• Vocal cues? (growling, whining, barking, snapping)

• Body posture? (stiff body, tucked tail, raised hackles)

📅 Step 2: Track the Timeline

• When did you first notice it?

• How often does it happen?

• Is it getting worse or more frequent?

🔁 Step 3: Look at the Pattern

• What happened right before the behavior?

• What happened immediately after?

• Are there clear triggers? (guests, food, other pets, children, certain environments?)

Behavior doesn’t happen randomly — there’s usually a pattern 🧠✨

🧍🏽‍♀️ Step 4: Your Response Matters

Be honest (no judgment zone 🙌🏽):

• How did you respond in the moment?

• How did your dog react to your response?

Your reaction can either calm or accidentally reinforce behavior.

📍 Step 5: Document the Details

• Where does it usually happen?

• Has anything been tried before?

• What worked? What didn’t? Even temporarily?

Keeping a behavior log is gold for your vet 💛

🏡 Step 6: Household Information
Don’t be surprised if your veterinarian asks:
• Who lives in the home (including all pets)?

• Who is the primary caretaker?

• Has there been any aggression — growling, snapping, biting, scratches, or puncture wounds?

These questions aren’t nosy are trying to get your pet in trouble — they help assess safety and determine next steps.

💡 This preparation helps your veterinarian decide:

• If medical diagnostics are needed

• If pain or illness could be contributing

• Or if a referral to a veterinary behavior specialist is appropriate

Early intervention = better outcomes. Always. 🐕✨

Your dog isn’t “bad."
Behavior is communication.
Let’s figure out what they’re trying to say. 🐾💬

🐾✨ SAII PRO Tip #1: If You’re Thinking About Adopting a Puppy ✨🐾

Bringing a puppy home is exciting 🥹 but it’s also a long-term commitment. Here’s what you NEED to know before making that decision:

🔎 1. Do Your Research

Research the best breed, size, and age that fits your lifestyle, family dynamic, living space, and finances 💰🏡. Not every breed is for every household — and that’s okay.

🏠 2. Consider Adoption First (Especially for First-Time Owners)

If this is your first puppy, I highly recommend adopting from a shelter. Many shelters offer a 30-day return policy, meaning if the placement truly isn’t the right fit, the animal can be returned responsibly. That protects both you and the dog. ❤️

🩺 3. Consult a Veterinary Professional Early

Once you’ve chosen a breed, size, and age, speak with a licensed veterinarian or veterinary technician. They can educate you on:

• Common medical concerns
• Breed-specific conditions
• Behavioral tendencies
• Preventative care plans
Early education prevents long-term problems. 📚🐕

💸 4. Expect Unexpected Expenses

No matter the age — young, senior, small, or large — there WILL be unexpected costs. Accidents and illnesses happen just like they do with humans.
Pet health insurance is strongly recommended to prepare for emergencies. 🏥🐾

🏥 5. Build a Relationship With Your Vet

Find a veterinary clinic you’re comfortable with and build trust with your veterinarian and techs. You should feel safe discussing behavior issues, diet concerns, or medical changes immediately — not waiting until it’s too late.

🎓 6. TRAIN. TRAIN. TRAIN.

The most important takeaway: training is not optional.
Dogs thrive on structure, consistency, and leadership. Training builds communication, safety, and a lifelong bond between you and your companion. 🐕‍🦺💛
A trained dog is a happy dog. A prepared owner is a responsible owner.

If this helped you, share it with someone thinking about getting a puppy 🐶⬇️

Education saves animals. Responsible ownership changes lives.
