Kansas City North Trapper-Independent

Kansas City North Trapper-Independent If you are need of having a pet trapped please send a message. If you allow your pet to roam or are a breeder, I will not assist in trapping.

I am the only professional trapper in the Northland and work independently from Kansas City Dog Trappers. My name is Dawn, and I am an Independent Trapper in KC Northland. I have been volunteering in rescue for many years in several capacities such as fostering for local shelters and rescues, serving as a volunteer micro-chip scanner, transporting animals, professionally trapping animals to assist

local Animal Control Officers and pet owners to trap animals that are fearful, unapproachable and unable to be hand-captured. I am an avid animal advocate who will allows be the voice of an animal in need. My passion is trapping fearful animals as an effort to get them safely reunited with their owner. I also work closely with licensed rescues and local animal control services to trap stray animals that have rescue commitment. I spent many years learning how to manage a fearful personal dog, which gave me the knowledge and skillset to understand how to engage with animals in survival and flight mode. That knowledge led me to be a successful humane Trapper coupled with my passion to rescue fearful animals and get them to safety is my specialty. If you are a pet owner or a licensed rescue in need of an animal being trapped in the KC Northland, please reach out to me via messenger on this page. I will occasionally be available to assist rural locations, if there is rescue commitment and based on my availability. Unfortunately, I am unable to waste efforts trapping an owned pet that is freely allowed to roam. I am a volunteer who works a Full-time job thus will do my best to return your message during non-business hours.

This scared little girl was first seen last week near Winnetonka, WOF, 48th street, 210 & Searcy Creek, Parvin road, Chaumerie Lake, and Antioch and 43rd street.

She moves FAST and FAR. She is NOT approachable, as she will simply run if confronted. I personally had eyes on her several times and watched her run into oncoming traffic multiple times.

We almost had her trapped last night, however there was too much interference, and she got scared and left the area. We are hearing she may have traveled all the way back to 48th street tonight.

***If you see her, IGNORE her and contact us immediately so we can get her safely trapped before she is hit by a car***

**Sightings Needed**

Last seen on 6/3 in the Smithville area.
Pup travels FAR and FAST!

Please DO NOT APPROACH him as he is not able to be hand-captured and will just run. He was first noticed as posted on social media last week in the Holt and Kearney area. He traveled from there to Nashua and today there were 3 sightings in Smithville.

***IF YOU SEE THIS PUP CONTACT US IMMEDIATELY, and DO NOT ENGAGE WITH PUP** Some people have gotten fairly close but he is too skittish to hand-capture, thus requires being trapped.

We need sightings to get him safely trapped.

Happy Rock Park area-SIGHTINGS NEEDED

If you spot a small white dog (possibly a Lhasa apso) near the Happy Rock park area, can you please message our page with sighting details?

One has been seen running that area, as well as near the dog park and the public garden by Gladstone Shelter. We have not seen any "lost" reports for this pup and we do not have any pictures. We would like to get this little safe.

Thank you!

This pup was seen running near Englewood Park, dragging leash today.
His leash got tangled around the wheel of a moving jeep. Luckily he was not hurt. Bystanders were able to get the leash untangled but he was scared and ran off and would not allow anyone to grab him.

Sometimes we are just in the right place, at the right moment. Pup is not microchipped and is now at KCPP. If you know who this pup belongs to please have them reach out to KCPP to claim.

Trapping takes patience. There is no playbook that dictates that a dog will be trapped in X amount of hours or days. Sometimes it takes months. But, trapping is the safest way to secure an animal in flight mode. There is no quick fix. It is all about building trust, not fear.

One year ago today, Daisy escaped on transport to her new forever home. Her new Momma lived 500 miles away and felt helpless, but she did the right thing. She reached out for professional help.
She never lost hope. She trusted the trapping process, and she never gave up on a pup that escaped before she ever got to meet her.

After 49 days on the run, Daisy is now home with her forever Mom. I can't wait until she writes the documentary on Daisy's rescue. I can't imagine the emotions she felt and am so grateful that she put trust in the village of people that came together to help get Daisy safe.

Trust the trapping process and always listen to the advice of your trapper. It takes patience.

Please join me in wishing Trapper Nicole a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY"!

Nicole is instrumental in saving lives in the Northland as she works feverishly to get pups safely trapped. Nicole is fearless, funny, compassionate and one of the biggest animal lovers you will ever meet.

We are so blessed to have Nicole as a Trapper, and a friend. Fear is not something that most people understand. Nicole has a fearful dog and because of that she understands fearful dog behaviors. Couple that with her wicked trapping skills and she is one amazing Trapper. She also leads up the technology side of things such as managing the FB page, created and manages our trapping intake form requests, creates documentation to assist owners of lost pets on how to make effective fliers as well as self-help documentation. In addition to all that, the passenger side of my trapping car is referred to as "Nicole's seat". lol She is the best navigator, most daring co-pilot and brings excitement to each of our adventures.

Nicole, is enjoying her birthday weekend with her hubby and furbabies and we hope she has the best birthday ever! We are also sorry this is a day late, but trapping has kept us a bit busy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Nicole Marie!!!!

Harrah's Casino pup is safe after being seen wandering around, unapproachable around the casino area for the last week.

We were engaged to assist NKC AC to trap a pup that would not allow anyone close enough to hand-capture and was seen daily roaming the casino property.

After talking with employees, a feeding station and trap (not live) were deployed in a quiet wooded area behind the casino where she was often seen. She showed up on camera late that night but was too scared to enter the trap for they yummy food.

The next morning, I saw her in the parking lot. I was able to get her attention with food but despite every effort to hand-capture her she would not let close enough. I dropped a trap in the parking lot (not ideal) and tried to lead her to it with food. She loved my food, but was not brave enough to enter the trap. I spent a good hour working to build trust, played ball, tossed chicken, you name it. I could entertain her and keep in the same spot for a long time but not get close enough or get a slip lead near her or her inside the trap.

Early Saturday morning I received a call from a gas station clerk on Chouteau informing me she was in their parking lot eating trash. I quickly headed to the casino, hoping she was on her rounds back to the casino. I set the trap in the woods live and as I was leaving, she was spotted running inside the parking garage. I switched gears and was able to find her in the garage. I dropped a second trap in the garage and attempted to lure her to it, however again she was too scared of the trap.

I built enough trust to keep her engaged and decided it was time to get creative. I tossed her some chicken while I quickly dropped another trap but bungeed one side of it up and laid the other end of the door all the way down to create a tunnel. From there, I turned it into a game and a small amount of food inside as an effort to get her to duck her head inside the trap. Each time she did it I praised her and kept putting the food further back, would step away and then praise her again. Eventually, she went through the trap, and I left her a good size jackpot to praise her for being so brave. I repeated it a few times so she understood our new game. Then I walked her over the live 72-inch trap that was placed a few feet away and tossed the food in and walked away. She walked in without hesitation to play the game again and boom she was safely trapped. Woot Woot!

This poor girl had to be sedated to remove the hundreds of ticks but is safe at NKC Animal Shelter. If you know who this baby girl belongs to please call them and let them know. Not chipped.

5/25- Final update- Pavy is safe tonight after her owner and 2 men cornered her.

Platte City area-
5/25 update- Pup has now crossed the highway and is back on the Platte City side. She was seen in near 136th and Hunter this morning, however, ran when approached. If seen please contact owner immediately, and do not approach her as she is in flight mode.

If you see this pup please CALL his owner immediately with detailed location, date and time of the sighting.
Please do NOT follow this pup, chase it, or engage with it, as it is in flight mode and will run.
We are actively working to safely trap it and appreciate everyone not pursuing the dog, as it is fearful of people right now.

Newly adopted Ember is home safe today after escaping her new parents a couple days ago.

Her parents reached out for help since she is a fearful pup that was a known flight risk, and unable to be recalled. Typically, a fearful dog will return to the exact place it escaped late at night when it feels safe and secure. We suggested that they move their feeding station to the gate where she escaped vs the front door and add scent items to the ground. The homeowner was able to redirect an exterior security camera to the gate location to monitor it to see if she returned.

As expected, she returned to the gate several times Sunday night. The owners saw her on their home camera and attempted to lure her back into the house but were unsuccessful as she would just run away (typical behavior for a pup in flight mode).

A trap and trail cams were deployed at the gate location early Monday morning. The day went on without any sightings of Ember, but I was confident she would return again in the evening. Unfortunately, the storm rolled in and we had to bungee up the trap Monday evening as it is not safe to trap in storms. Sure enough, 15 minutes after the trap was bungeed, we had a sighting as she was seen a few blocks away heading back towards the trap, right about the time the storm let loose.

As we expected, at 1:46am Ember showed up at the non-live trap. She entered the trap multiple times and hung out in the same location. 30 minutes later, Ember entered the open gate to the backyard. The owner rushed out the front door and closed the gate on her and was able to get her safely inside the house. This method can be risky, as if it scares the pup, we lose our safe place to trap, but luckily it worked in this situation and Ember is safe.

Ember is safe and dry now, and we love a happy ending.
