Meet Kira, Our Pet of the Week!
We were so glad to see her in the clinic this week for a routine puppy visit, especially after her recent appointments had been centered around recovering from her injury. Her first visit with us at the hospital was to address limping concerns and after x-rays were taken the doctor identified that she had multiple broken toes, or digits. Our team helped sedate her in order to safely place a splint and bandage. Once the splint and bandage were placed she required multiple bandage changes which she handled like a champ with a little treat distraction.
After little practice hobbling on her new paw, with a large bandage in place, she got the hang of it and acted like there was nothing to it. At home she loves playing with the cat who is 2x her size and enjoys naps on the couch. The doctor recently took another x-ray and it shows her bones are healing well and she was able to have the split removed. We are thrilled Kira had a smooth recovery and never stopped having her puppy playful energy!

Meet Snickers, Our Pet of the Week!
This snuggly guy came in this week to update his annual wellness visit. During his exam he made sure to stay close to his mom for comfort. Snickers did great for his visit, and the trick is to keep him close and snuggled in a towel to get through the pokes. He has a history of gingivitis and has had multiple dentals throughout the years as recommended by our doctors. After the most recent dental procedure the client could tell that he was more active (like a kitten) and realized that his teeth must have been affecting him more than they had realized. We are grateful this service can help give felines a fresh start and make them feel more comfortable.
Snickers enjoys watching birds from a window in their home, sleeping on their greyhound sibling’s long legs and of course snuggling their owner. Thank you for coming to see us Snickers and we are happy to hear your recent dental cleaning helped you get back some of your youthful spark.

Meet Becker, Our Pet of the Week!
She is a part of the Friendship Animal Hospital family in a very special way, being the loved companion of the practice owner, Dr. Billings. You can find her beautiful portrait incorporated in the wallpaper in the clinic lobby. When Becker stops in to see us, she can be found glued to Dr. Billings side following her through the clinic hallways or napping in her office. It’s clear she’s quite proud of her owner for creating such a peaceful and welcoming space for clients and their pets. At home, Becker enjoys taking long walks and laying under the kid’s chairs in the kitchen to catch any treats they may drop. She is also a lover of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and will even make noises when they are crossing over the Mackinaw Bridge in excited anticipation for the trip ahead. Thank you, Becker, for being the heart and mascot of our hospital and happy early birthday as you celebrate 15 wonderful years this Sunday!

Meet Nami, Our Pet of the Week!
This adorable chihuahua just celebrated her 12th birthday on September 13th! She came into the clinic this week due to concerns about her chewing on her paws. The client noticed the skin was irritated and required some attention. Our team was able to collect a sample of the skin by using a piece of tape to collect skin cells. Those cells were then placed onto a microscope slide to identify if there were any bacteria or yeast causing the irritation. Our technician identified yeast and cocci during the microscopic evaluation. The doctor then prescribed oral antibiotics, cleaned the paws with anti-fungal wipes and sent home a steroid to help relieve the itching symptoms for Nami. We are hopeful that this plan with help relieve her symptoms and have her feeling back to normal very soon.
Her owner shared that Nami loves running around in the open grass whenever she gets the chance and if she feels frightened, she will tuck behind their nephew (who is a baby ☺️). Thank you for always trusting our team to help make your loving companion feel better!

Did you know?
Not all pets are considered “seniors” at the same age; it is dependent on their individual health and condition. Small dogs and cats are considered seniors at 7-8 years old, medium dogs at 7 years old, and large/giant breed dogs at 5 years old.
This is important to know because senior pets need more attention and more frequent vet visits to ensure they are staying healthy. Aging is a natural process, and just like us, dogs and cats go through mental and physical changes as they age. Some may experience decreases in their senses, behavioral changes, changes in nutritional needs, or even health issues.
As your pet ages, continue to bring them to us for any changes you notice as well as routine wellness visits so we can support you and them as they age. As always, we are here to help and answer any questions you may have!

Meet Mustard, our Pet of the Week!
This brave boy recently visited Friendship Animal Hospital for an MRIT outpatient procedure, a specialized surgery performed by a board certified surgeon to repair the cranial cruciate ligament — the canine equivalent of a human ACL repair.
Our hospital works closely with a board certified surgeon who visits our clinic to perform advanced procedures for our patients. She supports several veterinary hospitals in the region, and we’re grateful to have her expertise available to our clients when specialized surgical care is needed.
Mustard came fully prepared thanks to his amazing family, arriving with a surgery suit to protect his staples and a cone ready for use to keep him from bothering the incision site.
Mustard is home on strict rest and making steady progress, though he’s had a bit of trouble with his appetite as he adjusts after surgery. His family has been closely monitoring him and supporting him through this stage of healing.
We’re so proud of Mustard and grateful for the teamwork between our surgical team and his dedicated family. Wishing him a fast recovery!

Meet Raven, our Pet of the Week!
This energetic 6‑year‑old Beagle visited us for vaccines this week, and she made quite an impression with her nonstop tail wags. Our team quickly recognized that Raven thrives with a “less‑is‑more” approach. She preferred not to be held, so we used her favorite motivator—cheese—and took things slowly to keep her appointment low‑stress.
With patience, gentle handling, and plenty of snacks, we were able to complete everything on her list. Raven finished her visit still wagging her tail, which is exactly what we love to see.
At home, Raven’s favorite pastime is playing ball in the backyard with her grandpa. She enjoys sleeping under the covers, loves all food, and will always choose sunshine over cold Michigan winters.
Thank you, Raven, for letting the Friendship Animal Hospital team provide a personalized exam that worked perfectly for you.
