Pet First Aid Awareness Month.

This post is going to be about a potential injury that can happen occasionally, especially to active dogs, working dogs, gun dogs etc.

If a dog lands on a fence post or a sharp broken branch they can damage the Brachial artery which is runs through the armpit. Like humans, it's a difficult place to tourniquet so the best action is to apply pressure immediately using your fist, hands, fingers etc

As the photograph shows, a tennis ball is a great object to use to help reduce blood loss if you have one handy. If a ball is squeezed in the armpit, it compresses the brachial artery, reducing the blood flow. Jam it in the armpit and keep it there hard as possible until you get to the Vets. It may just reduce blood loss enough for the dog to recover.

Natural Chamomile Calming Gelatin Gummies for Dogs to Help Relaxation and Gentle Stress Support

Ingredients:

* 1 cup (240 ml) chamomile tea (brewed strong, cooled, caffeine-free)
* 1/2 cup (120 ml) chicken broth (unsalted, onion-free, garlic-free)
* 3 tbsp (27 g) unflavored gelatin powder (plain gelatin, no additives)
* 1 tsp (5 ml) honey (raw or natural, optional small amount for flavor)

Supplements:

* None

Instructions:

1. Brew chamomile tea using 1 cup (240 ml) hot water and a chamomile tea bag. Let it steep for 5–10 minutes, then remove the bag and allow the tea to cool slightly.
2. Pour the warm chamomile tea and chicken broth into a saucepan over very low heat.
3. Slowly sprinkle the unflavored gelatin over the liquid while whisking continuously to prevent clumps.
4. Stir gently for 2–3 minutes until the gelatin completely dissolves and the mixture becomes smooth.
5. Add the honey and stir until evenly combined.
6. Pour the liquid mixture into silicone molds or a small parchment-lined tray to create cube shapes.
7. Place the molds in the refrigerator for about 2–3 hours until the gummies fully set.
8. Remove from molds and cut into small bite-size cubes if needed before serving.

Storage:
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. Freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before serving.

* Gelatin provides collagen and amino acids that support joint health and skin condition.
* Chicken broth adds flavor and encourages dogs to enjoy the calming treat while keeping sodium low when unsalted broth is used.

Calorie Information:
Approx. 90 kcal per batch; approx. 4–5 kcal per gummy assuming about 18–20 cubes. Estimate based on gelatin and small amount of honey used.
