Storm season is here, (severe storms are coming thru the four states area tonight) and having a plan matters just as much for your animals as it does for you. When severe weather or tornadoes are on the way, the goal is simple: keep them safe and avoid last-minute chaos.

Dogs and cats:

🐾Bring them inside well before the storm hits
🐾Set up a safe room or crate ahead of time so they're contained, not panicking or trying to escape
🐾Keep leashes, carriers, and other essentials together so you're not scrambling
🐾Watch weather alerts and act early, before the storm is already on top of you.
🐾Microchip.
🐾Enrichment activities are good in times of stress along with pheromone spray.

Horses:

✔️Turn out in a large, open pasture if possible
✔️Avoid small pens, trees, and anything they could get trapped against
✔️Don't lock them in a barn that could collapse
✔️Make sure they have ID on them, such as a halter with a tag, a braided tag in the mane, or anything else that will stay with them.

No setup is perfect in severe storms , but preparation gives you the best shot at avoiding injuries and lost animals.
Have a plan before you need one.
