We’re here at the Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV) Conference in Austin, Texas—and Showerbird is getting noticed. 💦

We’ve had the opportunity to speak directly with avian veterinarians about one of the most overlooked aspects of companion bird care: bathing.

The response has been remarkable. Veterinarians are recognizing that proper bathing isn’t simply about keeping feathers clean—it plays an important role in maintaining healthy skin, feathers, and natural behaviors.

Showerbird is at the Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV) show in Austin Texas.

We’re here alongside some of the leading avian veterinarians in the country, talking about something every companion bird needs—but that often doesn’t get enough attention: bathing.

Showerbird® is an at-home rainfall-style bathing system designed specifically for companion and exotic birds. It produces a gentle, fine mist that encourages natural bathing behavior while making regular bathing easier and more consistent for both birds and their owners.

At AAV, we’ve been having conversations with veterinarians about feather health, skin hydration, environmental factors, and the importance of providing birds with appropriate opportunities to bathe.

And the response has been encouraging.

The message we keep hearing is simple: many companion birds are simply not being bathed properly or often enough.

Why do the materials used for bathing your bird matter?

For years, bathing has often been as simple as a spray bottle and tap water. But when bathing becomes a regular part of a companion bird’s care, it’s worth asking a more important question:

What is the water traveling through before it reaches your bird?

The materials, construction, cleanliness, and ability of a bathing system to drain and dry can all matter when water is repeatedly brought into contact with a bird’s feathers, skin, eyes, and respiratory system.

It’s a conversation we believe deserves more attention.

For decades, bird owners have been told one simple thing:
“Use a spray bottle.”

But stop for a moment and ask yourself:

Where is the research showing that spraying a captive bird with a hand-held bottle is the best way to bathe it?

Birds don't naturally experience bathing from a plastic bottle. They experience rain, mist, falling water—and choice.

Maybe the problem isn't that your bird hates water.

Repeatedly squeezing a spray-bottle trigger hundreds of times during regular bathing can put repetitive strain on your fingers, hand, and wrist.
