For the last 5 years, Maui has been used on a South Dakota ranch where he learned what a full day’s work looks like. Gathering cattle, covering rough country, navigating timber, crossing water, handling commotion — he’s done it all with confidence and common sense. He’s surefooted, steady alone, and knows how to take care of his rider outside.
But what makes Maui truly special is his attitude. He has the kind of willing, appreciative personality that makes people love being around him. Whether you ride every day or only when time allows, he meets you with the same dependable mindset each time you saddle up. Time off doesn’t affect him - he rides right off without trouble.
We took Maui to his very first horse show and honestly… he exceeded every expectation we had for him. By the first afternoon he was ground tying in the corner taking a nap while waiting for his classes. From ranch riding and ranch pleasure to conformation, he handled the busy atmosphere like he’d been showing his whole life.
Against tough competition he was the Reserve High Point Youth Ranch Horse! Shown by both youth and adult riders, Maui stayed calm, willing, and uncomplicated the entire weekend.
He’ll pick you up at the mounting block, stand quietly on the pedestal, cross tarps, bridges, rough terrain, water, and whatever else you point him toward. Around other horses he’s polite and easygoing, making him an enjoyable addition to any barn.
And those big brown eyes? They’re hard to forget.
