If you build it, they will come 🫶🏼That applies to vulnerable animals in need, good humans who want to make the world better, and people seeking purpose and community. We came together this week for "Pig School", which allowed us to pause and make sure our finger is on the pulse of the needs of the organization. The needs of the animals in our care. The needs of the humans who make this place a reality.

This is your very proud and dedicated 2026 graduating class of OMI Pig School!!!

We had a flood of veterinary visits go well this week, and we’re grateful for that. Blynken, however, had been struggling with mobility issues, and we were concerned there might not be a solution. Large pigs like Blynken often have much shorter lifespans because of the tremendous strain their size places on delicate joints and ligaments.

When we’ve exhausted every tool available to help a resident maintain a good quality of life, there is only one humane choice left. Yesterday, Blynken was peacefully euthanized by our veterinary team.

Blynken spent most of her life here alongside her two siblings and a large adopted family of rescued pigs. She was a beloved and respected member of the Cabin Houses community. Every need was met throughout her years with us, including being spayed four years ago as part of our initiative to improve the health of the Tennessee herd. We watched her transform into a vibrant, healthy Sanctuary Babe, and it has been an honor to help her age with dignity and comfort.

While we always grieve the loss of a resident, we choose to celebrate the life of a vulnerable farmed animal who escaped the gauntlet of animal agriculture and found her way to safety. Few pigs are given the chance to grow old surrounded by love and care. We feel immense gratitude for the privilege of serving this mission in a part of the country where sanctuary remains so deeply needed.

We love you, Blynken. See you on the other side, sister. 🫶

The common denominator in every rescue story is that ONE person has to show compassion. It starts a contagious chain reaction of goodness that ends in an innocent life ushered to safety.
Rae is one of the few lucky survivors to make it into the arms of Sanctuary Babe life. She’s blissfully unaware of the danger she was in, and today she spends her time soaking up all the happiness that life has to offer.
We don’t get many opportunities to rescue BIG pigs out of dangerous situations. Their fate is often fairly grim before we ever get a chance. Big pigs have become our *specialty* over the last decade, and we’re so proud of that work. We help one of the most vulnerable populations of farmed animals in one of the most difficult parts of the country.

Will I still have a place inside your heart?
And when you see what I’ve become
Will you love me for who I am, not who I was?”🎶

When friends visit and volunteer year after year to work beside us, they develop RELATIONSHIPS with the residents🫶.
It’s beautiful to see the connections that are possible between human animals and non-human animals. We don’t need to speak the same language. We don’t need to have the same style of thinking. We don’t need to have the same lifestyles. All that’s required is respect, gentleness, and compassion. That’s the heart of every healthy relationship, right? We can CHOOSE to live those values every single day.
Thanks for visiting, Meg. We’re grateful for your commitment to the mission, the residents, AND the humans who call this place their home.
