Good Sunday night, dear friends and family! I hope you've enjoyed your weekend with those who matter.
Most of you know that I have two AMAZING, accomplished children! My daughter was an EMT, but was just accepted into a PA program in the fall, and our son in an officer in the USAF, currently stationed in Japan!
But did you know that Marvin and I became bonus parents on my birthday this year?
It was April 7th, I received a call from this 23 year young lady regarding rehoming her cat because she was going to be homeless.
I advised her that we were on intake hold, but I always inform people about other resources. She tried surrending to a couple places and they wouldn't intake her cat.
She called me back on April 8th and said that they didn't intake her, so I agreed to pick them both up the next day, April 9th, on my birthday, and take her to different places.
We took her to several places and we got to the last stop. She went in with her cat, while Marvin and I waited in the car.
We started talking about the "what-ifs". What if they don't take her cat? What will happen to her cat...
It occurred to me in that moment that we were so worried about what was going to happen to her cat that we didn't even think about this young lady being out on the streets, homeless.
Marvin mentioned that we have an empty travel trailer just sitting on our property, and the rest, as they say, is history.
She returned to the car almost in tears, with her sweet cat. They didn't intake her. So I told her that her cat could stay in our travel trailer, and that she would need her mommy to stay with her. She was like, "What?" And I repeated myself.
She put her head in her hands and sobbed from the depths of her soul. I told her that I wanted to set her up for success, as I did for my children.
She has a job. She keeps her place clean. She's going to start school in the fall, and she is loved. We're helping her get her driver's license, so she can get her own car...
She pays no rent. No electricity. No nothing. We just wanted to give her the opportunity she never had. She said that she was adopted at three years old and was thrown out at 18 years old because she was "grown."
It's been almost two months and she is thriving. I'm so happy that she reached out to us. We are so proud of her and can't wait to see what stability, encouragement, and love does for her life.
Please welcome Nika to our growing KKR family! πππ»
