😥
🫠Y’all we have had a week. It has been full of loss (some personal), trauma and exhaustion. There is so much to it.
Then today, this guy was abandoned in our parking lot. Yes, we have it on camera. You had him on a leash and turned him loose. You can clearly be identified, but that isn’t the point.
Did you know he would be terrified? Did you know he would be scared of strangers and even try to bite? Did you know he would be in danger left near a busy road and that our staff would also be in danger?
He did not want anyone coming near him. One of our staff members spent an hour trying to befriend him, and made progress but then he got scared and ran off.
Later, we found him down by the road on Route W. It’s busy there. He was hot and exhausted and still very much wanted us to stay away from him. He did seem interested in the car though, like he would want to get in if only we, the scary strangers, weren’t in the car…so we had an idea. We stopped the car and got out, leaving one door open, and we backed off at a safe distance. Sure enough, he hopped in the car and laid down. We were able to close the door. The dog now owned the employee’s car lol
Eventually we were able to get a couple of slip leashes on him and safely walk him to the shelter.
He is safe. He is still scared. He still doesn’t want to be friends…not yet anyway, but we will work on that.
I guess we just want you to know that he’s safe. But also, do you know his name? Do you know if he had a favorite blanket or toy that could make him feel better? Do you know if he likes other dogs? Any info at all? You can contact us 573-334-5837, no judgement. We are too tired to be angry. We just need to know if you have any info that can help us help him.
For all of you who have supported us through this very emotional week, we thank you.
