Happy Thursday! 🦔 If you’ve ever wondered what an escapee hedgehog looks like, it looks like this. Cordelia has 6 babies right now, but she said “Eff them kids” !!! 🤦‍♀️🤣
Yes, hedgehogs can be escape artists! Not all of them, but her mama did this, too! They can be climbers! I watched her do this right in front of me a few minutes ago. In all these years, I’ve never actually watched it being done. Clearly, she gave zero effs. 😆

Happy Friday!!! Welcome to the anointing party!!!
If you are unfamiliar with hedgehogs “anointing”, it is a very peculiar behavior of theirs, and many don’t know why they do it. In essence, they foam at the mouth & slather said foam on their quills by twisting into odd positions when they taste/smell something interesting. In the wild, supposedly some hedgehogs would eat toxic plants and “anoint” with them all over their quills to keep predators away. These are not wild hedgehogs, but these 3 week old babies tasted/smelled something new & exciting to them, so of course it needs to be all over their bodies! 🤣😂

I am sooooo in love with these long eared hedgehog babies, it is not even funny! 😍 These babies are all reserved, but hopefully we will have more in 2027!

(This is a different species of hedgehog than our usual African Pygmy hedgehogs, which is why we won’t have more until next year. We only have one pair of this species, and they only breed once or maybe twice a year! There are links in the comments if you want to learn more about them!)

If my adopters in the DFW area need bugs for your hedgehogs, I STRONGLY recommend Zhi’s Bug Hub! They are great! Located in Wylie, TX. We made a quick run out there to pick up super worms yesterday, but shipping is also available! (So even if you aren’t in DFW they’re a great option, but better when not quite so hot, tho!) Very robust & healthy; sooooo much better than one of the big box chain pet supply stores where half of them in the cup are dead for $10. 😒

These long-eared hedgehog babies have grown like weeds!! They just turned 4 weeks old on Sunday & have been SO much fun. They change dramatically by the day as they grow! They are all spoken for, but if you are a patient person, and interested in a future litter in 2027, or just curious about them, get in touch! I’ll put some fun factoids in the comments.
