🚨VERY IMPORTANT POST🚨

Please read the post below. If you didn’t know before, now you do— if you cannot care for your Hedgehaus Hedgehog any longer, for any reason, we will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS take our babies back. Please contact me FIRST before selling them or giving them to someone else who could be completely unprepared. PLEASE do not “let them go” out into the wild- they will absolutely die. Please contact me BEFORE contacting a rescue, because there is never a need for a rescue with us. Our babies, even when they are no longer babies, will never be homeless. We will always take them back. This IS stated in our POLICIES on our website, and you agree to this when filling out the adoption application.

Happy Friday, everybody!!! We hope you’ve had a great week!!!! We just wanted to note that we currently do not have any available babies, but we DO have spots available on our waitlist for our holiday litters! We are hoping for them to be born around Halloween!🎃 As long as they are weaned and thriving, they will be ready to go home the week of Christmas! We do NOT encourage impulse buys or “surprise” hedgehogs as gifts, which is why our waitlist is such a great tool! You have a couple of months to get ALL the correct information and supplies! I am always available for any questions you have, and we have GREAT info on care & supplies on our website! Check it out and fill out the adoption application before our waitlist fills up! 🎄🦔🎅

Take a 👀!!!

I want to share a resource that I have been working on since summer, with the help of a few other volunteers, for NAQA (North American Quills Association). We plan to continue to add to the courses and hope lots of others will join in to chat on the message boards. We have future plans to host a virtual shows and other events through the forum. So, please come join the fun! There is a free membership tier for those just getting into the hobby, a premium tier for more serious hobbyists, and a VIP tier with information for breeders, educators, and rescues. Membership fees will initially go to support NAQA educational and hedgehog/tenrec promotional projects. Please share this link! https://www.skool.com/north-american-quills-assoc-1153/about

DIY Hedgehog Bins! Happy Friday!!

I spent yesterday making new bins for the hedgies. I use the 110 qt storage bins you can buy at Target. (You used to be able to buy them at Big Lots, too, but we don’t have Big Lots anymore! 😭)

A lot of people ask me about hedgehog enclosures, and these are what I prefer due to the fact that they are super easy to clean, keep drafts out and keep warmth in. (Especially important in the winter!) I do not use the lids, UNLESS the tenant is a repeat offender escapee, but I’ve found other ways to avoid the lids, like using hidey houses that are not as tall so they can’t climb up on them. (If you need a lid, you can cut out a rectangular hole in it, & attach screen mesh in its place for air.)

I do not advise using aquariums at all, because they have poor ventilation, and can trap moisture which creates mildew and mold. They also make temperature regulation difficult. Also they’re heavy and a pain in the 🫏 to clean.

Anyway, for a DIY bin, I use a hot glue gun without the glue sticks, and let it get realllllly hot. I probably let it heat up for 20 minutes or so, but you may not need to wait that long. I melt 3 holes in my preferred side of the bin so I can attach the water bottle on the outside of the bin with a band of elastic. (I got a roll of elastic banding in the sewing section of Walmart.) Just make sure the bottle isn’t too high (or even too low) for your hedgehog, and make sure the elastic is just snug enough to keep the bottle in place but not so tight that it squeezes water OUT!
These are very simple to make, cost efficient, and easy to clean! 🧼🦔

There IS a hedgehog pic at the end… for tax! 😂🦔💖
