Mariner of the Year 2025: Paul B
It is hard to imagine a more fitting re**er to receive this first-ever recognition.
Paul B is a true pioneer in the reefing hobby. With more than 50 years of dedication to his reef, he has built something far greater than an impressive tank. He has built a legacy. His reef stands as a remarkable picture of longevity, curiosity, innovation, and commitment, and his voice has helped shape and inspire generations of hobbyists along the way.
What makes Paul so special is that even after all these years, his love for the hobby is still alive and unmistakable. He still loves to share about the wonderful things happening in his tank. He still cares for fish so well that they often end up spawning in his reef. He still values learning. He still shares his experience with honesty, wisdom, and humor. And he still reflects the kind of passion for reefing that reminds all of us why this hobby captures our imagination in the first place.
Paul’s reefing journey reaches back to a time when saltwater hobbyists had to build, experiment, and innovate largely on their own. Long before modern reefing equipment became common, Paul was figuring things out, solving problems, designing solutions, and learning from the ocean itself. That spirit of innovation, paired with his generosity toward others, has made him one of the most unforgettable and respected members of the Reef2Reef community.
To be named a Mariner of the Month is a great honor. To go on from that group and become the very first Mariner of the Year makes this recognition especially meaningful. It is a celebration not only of a remarkable reef, but of a remarkable re**er whose impact on this hobby has been deep, lasting, and widely felt.
Congratulations again to Paul B on this well-earned and historic achievement!
