They may both be incredible dogs, but they have very different jobs!

Service Dogs are individually trained to perform specific tasks for a person with a disability. Their job is focused on helping their handler navigate everyday life.

Therapy Dogs work with their owners to provide comfort and support to other people in places like schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and other facilities. Therapy dogs do not have the same public-access rights as service dogs.

Both require solid obedience, good manners, confidence, and the ability to remain calm around distractions.

No matter the job, it all starts with the right training and a strong dog-and-handler team.

“Come” shouldn’t be a suggestion, it should be a reliable response you can trust in any situation. A strong recall gives your dog more freedom to explore while giving you peace of mind that they’ll return to you, even with distractions around.

Start small in a quiet environment, gradually increase distance, and slowly introduce distractions. Consistency and patience are key to building a recall that truly sticks. A great recall isn’t just convenient, it’s one of the most valuable skills you can teach your dog.
