Survivor's Companion America's First PTSD Service Dog Charity Built Just for Abuse Survivors

The Freedom K9 Project is a service dog organization that trains service dogs to help survivors overcome the struggles of PTSD. Integrating into normal life after trauma can seem impossible, but we work both with the dogs and the survivors to create a team that leads to the healing of the survivor.

Donate blankets, food, and toys to your local animal welfare organization.

Teach your dog a new trick!

Write to your local congressperson and ask that they support the ban of puppy mills.

Any other way you want to show love to the dogs in your life!

Prevalence of PTSD among adults was higher for females (5.2%) than males (1.8%), as well as for adolescent females (8.0%) when compared to adolescent males (2.3%).

These disparities suggest that women and girls may represent a larger proportion of individuals who could benefit from evidence-based interventions, including psychiatric service dogs trained to perform tasks that mitigate PTSD symptoms such as interrupting panic attacks, providing grounding during dissociative episodes, and creating personal space in public settings.

Survivor's Companion is dedicated to expanding access to PTSD service dogs, recognizing the growing need for these interventions among those affected by PTSD, particularly women and girls who experience the disorder at disproportionately higher rates.
