As I drove to Michigan Friday to transport the sweet disabled ducklings to Hope Valley Farm Duck Rescue and Sanctuary, Kellie went to her sister's to pick up a couple of kennels she graciously donated to us.

She came home with a bonus... yet another pekin that had been dumped. He was at her sister's neighbor's and they had him loaded in the back seat before she could even contemplate telling them we're FULL.

Please meet Hughes (Kellie's sister's last name). He is thankfully fitting right in.

A kind soul saw these babies after they had been left behind by a teenager that made an impulse TSC purchase at Easter. Not only were they abandoned but they were severely neglected and malnourished which has led to unfathomable leg development and other issues that they should never have to deal with.

This is absolutely despicable but it also reminds us of the good still out there amongst us. Shelly saw them, someone that knew nothing about domestic ducks, and she immediately searched for help. Merely by using Google to educate herself on domestic ducks, our rescue came up in her area. She emailed us asking for help. I knew we didn't have the resources to be able to help so I reached out to Hope Valley Farm Duck Rescue and Sanctuary and she immediately said yes... please get them to me as soon as possible!

Shelly brought them to us at 9:40 Wednesday night and we gave them a soft, safe space until I could take off work to drive them to Michigan on Friday.

They are already showing improvement, but the severe little guy still has a long road ahead of him. Neither of us have ever seen anything like the challenges this neglect has left him with. But they're in the absolute best hands to thrive and are surrounded by nothing but love and support as they continue to improve.

Thank you Shelly for giving them a chance. Thank you Corina for saying yes, without hesitation. You are a true blessing!!

This came up on my personal page as a memory from 8 years ago. This is Harley, the founder himself, just shy of a year old in the video. It was his first swim of the season.

It is because of him finding his way into our lives that we fell in love with ducks and wanted to learn more. He started the path for our rescue.

Harley is so missed every single day, but we are so grateful that he opened our eyes through our hearts 💕

The pigeons from the hoarding case that Derby City Pigeon Rescue saved arrived here a few weeks ago. ❤️

They are still understandably very skittish, but they are doing great! Four of the girls have even laid and are currently nesting on their feggs. 🥰

Thank you so much to Derby City Pigeon Rescue for not only stepping up to save them from the deplorable conditions they were forced to live in, but also for caring for their medical needs and getting them healthy for likely the first time in their young lives.

An extra special thank you to Almost Home - Pigeon Rescue CT for donating the hardware cloth for their aviary that DCPR kindly donated. We could not have done this without either of you and your selfless generosity. ❤️

Sharing below from my personal page. It has been three years since the founding duck himself, Harley, passed away. He is missed every single day but what an incredible legacy he created. We are beyond thankful that he came into our lives for so many priceless reasons.

Our sweet Harley passed away overnight in my arms. Nature provided him with bad genetics and he had tumors on and around his liver. His health began declining this past weekend and he fought all week but it was a battle that could not be overcome.

This boy started our love and devotion to ducks. We are so privileged to have had him in our lives for nearly seven precious years. We were beyond blessed to be a part of his journey. We will always love you, Harley! ❤️ 🦆 ❤️

Two of our very special followers graciously donated two rolls of hardware cloth for us. Not only can we complete the pigeon's enclosure, but we will have enough to make a few recently acquired kennels predator proof for the boys as we begin creating separate areas for the good ol' annual spring (March-November) hormones/fighting.

We had an absolutley amazing supporter of Derby City Pigeon Rescue graciously donate three rolls of hardware cloth from our wishlist. We are so thankful as this enabled us to start getting the pen prepared for the upcoming arrival of the pigeons from DLPR's hoarding case.

We got it nearly finished today but find ourselves needing one 50' roll of the 3' hardware cloth from our Amazon wishlist, https://a.co/0bSwPjhD, to get it completely wrapped cleanly.

We would be forever grateful if one of our amazing supporters could provide a roll so we can get this completed for the sweet babies that will be here soon.

Derby City Pigeon Rescue has graciously donated two kennels that we plan to combine to make one large aviary for the pigeons we will be adding to our sanctuary once they have finished with their quarantine and are medically cleared by DCPR.

With that being said, we need to cover the aviary entirely with hardware cloth. We have added a couple of sizes to our Amazon wishlist found here, https://a.co/0bSwPjhD. We would be so grateful if you're able donate toward keeping these new precious beings safe and secure once they arrive here.

Two weeks ago today, we very unexpectedly lost Mavis. Her sudden loss absolutely shattered us. It's still so raw and surreal. 💔

Every loss we experience is heartbreaking and never easy. But some are simply more difficult than others. Mavis was truly special, she just strutted "IT" so perfectly. 🥰

We are so honored that we got to have her in our lives, even though it was far too short. We thought we had decades to sit back and witness her love with Maverick make all of the other problems of the day disappear.

She will be forever missed. Words are inadequate in expressing the void she has left. But all of that love will help mend our broken hearts as we continue to be here for Maverick and everyone else that we are so blessed to love.
